Double plays can feel like a lot for young players to put together at once.
Breaking down the footwork and teaching players to move their glove and leg together helps simplify the movement and build the right habits early.
Once the mechanics become natural, the quickness will follow. 🥎

Catching starts before the ball ever hits the glove.
Coach Kaytlyn uses this tracking drill to teach catchers to watch the ball from the moment it leaves the hand until it reaches the glove. And if you’re going to flinch, she challenges catchers to flinch toward the ball instead of away from it.
Training that reaction helps catchers get more comfortable staying with tough pitches and more confident behind the plate.
Hand-eye coordination gets harder when BOTH hands have a job 👀🥎
For this drill, use two different types of balls and challenge athletes to catch one with each hand. Start with simple tosses, then mix it up: high, low, inside, outside, and keep increasing the speed.
The goal: react quickly, track two different objects, and get comfortable making adjustments on the fly.
Simple drill. Easy to make competitive. And it gets tough FAST.
Train your eyes to react faster so you can track down more balls on defense and see the ball better at the plate.

You’ve probably seen the top hand drill before.
But are you doing it the way it’s meant to be done?
This drill helps hitters stay through the ball, creating a stronger swing path that leads to more line drives and more consistent contact.
As you work through it, focus on these three key points:
• Don’t let the barrel drop.
• Match the plane of the ball through contact with your palm up.
• Extend through the ball on the same plane.
The details are what makes this drill translate to your game.

Most players think the glove is what gets through the ball.
It isn’t.
On a backhand, your wrist rotates, but your entire arm should continue working through the ball. When you only reach with your glove, you create extra movement and make the play harder than it needs to be.
This is one of our favorite drills for helping athletes feel the difference.
Once they do, their backhands usually become smoother, quicker, and more controlled.
