Nikki had several families reach out with gear questions, so here's her guidance:
SOFTBALL GEAR GUIDE FOR OUR 8U & 10U TEAMS

There are a LOT of choices when you start shopping for softball gear, and I don’t want anyone feeling like they need to spend a fortune to get their daughter started. What matters most is having equipment that fits properly and allows her to learn, throw, catch and swing with confidence.

A few things to know:

Gloves: I included the sizes I recommend based on age, hand size and frame, along with some brands I trust.

Bats: The league provides bats for games, so you do NOT need to purchase a bat of your own. If you do decide to buy one for your daughter to use at home or practice, I included a few tips for choosing the right size and weight.

Fielder’s Masks: These will be required for all players once the official Salmon Softball League season begins. Your daughter can choose the brand and color she likes.

Most importantly, don't feel like you need the fanciest or most expensive gear. The right fit is far more important than the price tag.

🥎 SOFTBALL SKILLS CAMP! 🥎

We’re excited to kick off monthly softball skills camps starting September 12th!

📍 City Park – Field 1
⏰ 10:00–11:30 AM
🎒 2nd–5th graders
🥎 No experience necessary!

This is a great opportunity for girls to learn, practice, build confidence, and have some fun with softball! Players should bring their usual softball gear and plenty of water.

As the program grows, we hope to eventually split the camps into 8U (2nd–3rd grade) and 10U (4th–5th grade) groups.

We’re excited to keep growing softball in our community and get these girls ready for the spring season! 🧡🥎

What can only be described as a Cinderella story came true this weekend for our 8U softball team.

Just over a year ago, there hadn't been a local 8U softball program for several years. When this team was formed, we started completely from scratch. Not a single player had previous softball experience. They were simply a group of girls willing to give something new a try.

What happened next is a testament to their dedication.

After last season ended, these girls kept showing up. Through the offseason, they gathered once a month to continue learning and growing. This spring, we welcomed six new players into the family, and together they got to work.

As the season began, you could see the transformation happening. The girls grew stronger, more confident, and more knowledgeable with every practice and every game. They worked hard for 12 weeks, learning not only the physical side of softball but also the mental toughness the game demands.

This weekend, they entered their very first tournament, a tournament that brought over 50 teams from 4 states. They were facing teams that regularly compete in tournaments every summer and fall. We knew it would be a challenge.

After going 3-0 yesterday, they put themselves in a strong position to compete for the championship.

This morning's first game was a nail-biter. The opposing team came ready for redemption, and our girls were cold, tired and rubbing sleepy dirt from their eyes. But they dug deep and found a way. They squeaked out a victory and punched their ticket to the championship game.

Waiting for them was that same talented team.

The championship atmosphere was electric. On a scale of 1 to 10, the excitement was an 11. Our girls were fired up, focused and ready to compete.

And when the final out was recorded, they had done it.

Champions.

Gold medals around their necks. Smiles from ear to ear. A moment they'll never forget.

From where this team started just a year ago to where they stand today is nothing short of incredible. These girls earned every bit of this success through hard work, perseverance, teamwork, and heart.

We're so proud of each and every one of them.

This championship wasn't given to them. They earned it.

And they earned it together, finishing the season 13-1. 🥎🏆🥇

Day 1 of our 8U team's first ever tournament is in the books! The girls played 3 games of their life today, scoring a total of 33 runs. We celebrated many heads up plays: tagged outs, force outs, strikeouts, infield pop fly catches and even a grand slam! 💥

After winning our first two games we were seeded #1 in our bracket. Then, we won the first game of our bracket.

The girls are still sitting #1 in their age division with a face-off tomorrow morning against the Diamond Divas at 8:45am. If they win that game, they have a ticket to the championship game at 11:15. Wish them luck and skill, say a prayer and give them all the good vibes you can muster.

Excited to announce our 2026 Salmon Softball League Clinic!

I’ll be working with athletes on fielding, batting, pitching, and catching across two days. If your player wants extra reps, skill development, or just a fun softball experience, this clinic is perfect for them.

The 8U team came together one last time as "Orange" vs "Black" in our Salmon Jamboree face off on Friday night. The crowd was large, the music was turned up, the burgers were sizzling and the girls were ready for a showdown.

We had 2 pop fly catches, a pickle, a slide at home, an earned HOME RUN and many well made outs. The girls' game IQ is growing! The competition was fierce and they weren't backing down from each other. In the end they had fun, learned some tough lessons, got great reps in and are heading into our tournament next weekend looking strong.

Thank you to our friends and family members who attended our final home game! The girls are very thankful for your support. It means a lot to them.

I want to apologize for all of the schedule changes leading up to today’s jamboree. Unfortunately, we’ve had multiple teams back out or change plans at the last minute, which has forced us to adjust the schedule several times. While much of this has been outside of our control, we know the constant changes have been frustrating for players, families, and coaches.

Our goal has always been to give these girls the opportunity to play, and we’ve done our best to piece things together as changes have come in. Is it exactly what we originally planned or hoped for? No. But games are happening, and we’re grateful the girls will still get to be on the field competing and having fun.

Thank you to everyone who has been patient, flexible, and understanding throughout the process. Sometimes the only thing we can count on is that life is unpredictable, and today has certainly been a reminder of that. We appreciate everyone who’s rolling with the punches alongside us and helping make the best of it.

Good luck to all of our Salmon Softball teams as they hit the fields this weekend! Come out and cheer on our athletes as they compete, grow, and represent Salmon with pride.
