No participation trophies back then! I won my first bodybuilding trophy when I was 17 years old. Being naturally skinny when I started training, it took me years to develop my physique until I was able to place higher in the teenage bodybuilding contests that I started entering when I was 16. It wasn’t until I competed in my fourth teenage bodybuilding contest that I finally won my first trophy. I was 17 years old and I took second place in the Teenage Mr Chicagoland. I cherished that little second place trophy because I wanted to win one so bad. You don’t have to start out in first place to end up a champion.
