Costumes play a vital role in any production,
helping to define characters, set the tone, and
transport audiences into the world of the
play.
Having the creative freedom to choose the costumes for my character, Kate in Moonriver Theatre Company’s production of If/Then was fun, inspiring and helped bring her to life. Also, I got to pull pieces from my closet that I hadn’t worn in a while.
The story centers on Elizabeth as she returns to New York City, and Kate is one of the main characters around her. Kate is a le***an schoolteacher who evolves from a comedic “comic-buddy” role into a more compelling individual
From JP, the Director’s initial inspiration, I envisioned Kate to be a lover of fashion and one who wears the most beautiful, colorful, elegant pieces that match her magical, whimsical and funny personality. She loves fashion and on her teacher’s salary, frequents NYC thrift and vintage shops to find the most beautiful pieces.
Her wardrobe shows that the ‘fits can become their own supporting character. Thank you JP for trusting me.
