Mithun has returned to the national team setup after a long gap, earning a call-up to the Bangladesh A squad for the South Africa tour! 🇿🇦🇧🇩

If not favoritism, then why is a player who is far past his prime and not a fit for the current setup getting more matches than rising stars?

For quality pacers, pace and swing are a must. Luckily, Bangladesh currently has plenty of bowlers who can either touch 140 km/h or swing the ball moving forward. Yet despite this luxury, Bangladesh HP went with two seamers clicking around 125-130 km/h with barely any swing! 📉

Bangladesh HP relied heavily on Abdul Gaffar Saqlain for 7 matches in the Top End Tournament. While he isn't fast, his economy rate was decent and his variations managed to carry him through. 🎯

However, 30-year-old Abu Hider Rony completely failed to deliver! No pace, no swing, and no lethal variations: stats don't lie. In 5 matches, he managed just 3 wickets while giving away 45 runs per wicket at an economy rate touching 8.00! Whenever Rony bowled, the captain struggled to even complete his quota. 🤦‍♂️

Is this the first time Abu Hider Rony has failed? Absolutely not. He has struggled in almost all recent campaigns for Bangladesh HP and the A team. Will it be the last time? Definitely not! Four board presidents have changed, but Abu Hider Rony has somehow stayed a permanent name in the HP and A-team setups for over a decade! 🔄🚩

The real irony? Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, who can clock around 145 km/h, got just one match, and promising young pacer Rohanat Doullah Borson played only one game despite delivering an extremely solid performance! ⚡

According to cricket journalist Abhishek Tripathi, only the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) hinted that they might send a B-team (second-string side) for the Asian Games.

Meanwhile, the BCCI and other cricket boards did not support this idea. The BCCI is NOT sending a B-team , the main squad that was already submitted will travel, with replacements made only for players who are unavailable or unfit! 🇮🇳

Bangladesh beat South Africa in a T20 back in 2012 at a triangular series in Harare! 🇿🇦🇧🇩

Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and South Africa (all full international sides) faced each other, but the series itself was not classified as official Twenty20 International matches, and was instead designated as unofficial T20 matches. If this series took place in the current era, it would definitely be classified as an official international tournament!

In that triangular series, Bangladesh faced South Africa twice and successfully defeated them once. That South African side featured players like Hashim Amla (c), Faf du Plessis, Albie Morkel, Chris Morris, Robin Peterson, Wayne Parnell, and Colin Ingram: most of whom were global T20 stars at the time, regularly featuring in the IPL!

In official records, Bangladesh is still winless against South Africa (whereas Namibia has beaten them twice), but Bangladesh can certainly consider themselves unlucky that the 2012 triangular series wasn't awarded official status. 📉
