Senior & Heavy Honda Extended Race at Blackbird Quarter Midget Race Club

We are getting back into the RACE! Today we only focused on 2 cars, one for each, and to run both Extended Races. We raced later today due to morning rain and the track was soft for time trials. They both placed last for their classes. Both of these classes are the older, more experienced classes.

Kelsey ran her OG Fox car in the Senior Honda Race. She did awesome! Got her line and prevented anyone from passing her except for the top 2 positions who lapped the field 3x! Kelsey gained 2 positions - P7 > P5.

Karley ran Heavy Honda today - only her 2nd race out of rookie, her 5th(?) official race, only 3rd time in this car and her 1st time at our hometrack with "equivalent" size competition. She totally surprised me! I anticipated her being timid and afraid as she has been "staying out of the way" in her recent races - I figured she would be afraid and not be aggressive enough to keep up. Well once a kid nudged her, that was enough! She took off and passed like shes been doing this for years! She would share her position for a moment before taking it right back. She started in last, P4 and got to P2 when the 2 just behind her got tangled up with just 4 laps left. Sadly for P1, he was on their tail to lap them and couldnt avoid them or the wall - and the wall won. Because of this, Karley was moved into 1ST!!! Until... she was penalized on the restart for the box or a sunglare? No one but the one that matters saw her hit the box, we did not. You really cannot tell the difference between the sunglares and the white box on the track. She was sent back two, putting her 3rd and last with just 4 laps left. In our hearts, she is the rookie that came from last and finished first today, but we took home the 3rd place banner today.

It's been a few weeks since posting a race recap because, as I told Paul yesterday, I feel like we are taking the walk of shame having the last spot in the lowest main these past few races. In this sport, the whole team takes the accountability in our outcome and our drivers, the girls, are just one piece of the puzzle. In the last 3 weekends, we cut Karley's rookie program short to give a "sink or swim" experience, we moved into 3 new classes, and put 2 new cars on the track with our 2 drivers. Needless to say, we have a big learning curve and we haven't even been racing 6 months yet. I was getting impatient and Paul was getting frustrated with himself that it was best that I didn't reflect on these recent races. As the team manager, I suggested that we slow down this weekend to allow us to focus on less cars during the race day (and because $)... Well it worked!

I will finish this post with the recaps of the past couple weekends and give today's in a separate post (because it deserves its own).

Time Trials Placed her P15/17 and P4 for her C Main (inverted positions). She gave one kid hell not giving up her line that he couldn't pass. She got up and then fell to P5 but earned the X spot for B Main - just wasn't needed.

Light 160
Time Trials placed her 15/15.
B Main P10>P10

Paul was very frustrated messing with the setups for all of the cars cars but running these classes back to back is also not for the inexperienced.

9/12 Northeast Dirt Series Regionals #2 at West End QMA - We purposely only ran the 160 with Kelsey for her to continue regionals but also to try to learn this car more.

She drew one of the highest numbers that put her last in her heat and that is where she stayed due to spin outs. We obviously did not have a good set up for the car. She was set to start last in the lowest main. Did a quick gear adjustment for the C main. She did great but we still do not have good insight on this car. She gained a position at the start - P8 > P7.
