Great racing by the young American ladies in the 1500 meter prelims at the U20 World Championships.

Claire Stegall and Ellery Lincoln both looked poised and controlled and I think that they will be a factor in the final. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a new PB from Lincoln.

On this day, 68 years ago, Herb Elliott of Australia broke the mile world record by 2.7 seconds with a 3:54.5 clocking in Dublin, Ireland.

For the first time in the same race, five men broke 4 minutes, Merv Lincoln of Australia 3:55.9, Murray Halberg of New Zealand 3:57.5, Ronnie Delany of Ireland 3:57.5 & Albie Thomas of Australia 3:58.6.

"It was simply the most significant race ever run in Ireland..."

The men’s 1500 meter final was one for the ages!

New personal bests for all three of the medalists. A new Olympic record. All three Americans in the top 5! Two national records (Italy and the Netherlands.)

Ingebrigtsen executed his plan perfectly knowing that it would take a 3:27 race to win, none of the other medalists had broken 3:29 before. He played the perfect rabbit for the rest of the field.

Alas it’s better to be the predator than the prey and the kickers went by he had no response.

Hocker closed in 26.3 (13.3/13.0) for his last 200 and ran his way into history. His 3:27.65 was just shy of Bernard Lagat’s American record of 3:27.40.

42 years ago today Joan Benoit ran away from a stellar field to win the inaugural women's Olympic marathon.

She would go on to dominate the marathon on the world stage for several years and running age group world records.

A true ambassador and champion of our sport.

The World U20 Championships are happening in Eugene this week.

Tough conditions for the athletes with very warm temperatures combined with poor air quality from all of the wildfire smoke in the area.

The men’s and women’s 5000 meter finals are taking place tomorrow. Wishing the best of luck to everyone competing.
