I watched the clock- with my finger on the button- and waited until midnight- to press that send button for the very. last. time.

👩🏻‍🎓 My Master of Social Work Capstone has been submitted- on my Cousin, Scotty’s Heavenly 43rd Birthday. 😇

No more 85-103 hour work/school/internship weeks.

This is a full circle moment for me. ✨

I dropped out of high school my senior year because I was too busy being a social butterfly instead of focusing on my grades. Scotty graduated from high school and I passed my GED. We shared our celebration, and cut the cake- together. We then registered at Suffolk Community College- together.

In high school, I didn’t know what or who was a School Social Worker, but he knew me. 😬 Mr. Pifko. I worked with him- and by “work”, I mean I had an excuse to not go to class. I remember my last “crossroads group” when I turned around and told him I was going to have his job one day. Looking back, I don’t think I actually meant that. I didn’t like going to group- I just liked not going to class. I really don’t know why I said it. But I did. He looked at me, smiled and nodded his head- probably more so in disbelief. 😆 That was the last time I saw him.

Today, I’m a School Social Worker.✨

Today, I graduated with my Masters in Social Work.👩🏻‍🎓

Today, is my Cousin Scotty’s Birthday.🎂

I am overwhelmed with emotions. I’m proud. I’m sad. I’m excited. I’m heartbroken. I’m relieved. I can’t wait to move forward. I wish I could go back. 😇

I miss you so much, Scotty. I miss all of you. 💔😢 Thank you for being a part of my journey 👣 from deciding at Nana’s that we were going to enroll into the first day of college together- to me finishing grad school on your birthday.
