A busy shop is a good reminder: don’t wait until you need your firearm to find out it needs service.

Routine maintenance helps catch the small things before they become bigger problems. Carbon buildup, worn components, loose hardware, corrosion, or simply years of use can all affect how a firearm functions. Whether it’s your hunting shotgun, range rifle, competition gun, or something that’s been sitting in the safe, keeping up with cleaning, inspection, and service matters.

At Under the Gun, we handle everything from routine cleanings and safety checks to repairs, upgrades, and full gunsmithing work.

If you’ve been thinking, “I probably need to get that gun looked at,” this is your sign.

Bring it into the shop or call us today and get your firearm on the bench before you actually need it.

There’s something satisfying about watching a shotgun get fit the way it should.

This came across the bench for a new butt pad, which means carefully fitting and shaping the pad to match the stock rather than simply bolting one on and calling it done.

It’s a small detail, but it can make a big difference in how a shotgun looks, feels, and fits the shooter.

And whether your shotgun is a high-end over/under, a well-used hunting gun, a competition shotgun, or the first shotgun you ever bought, it deserves the same attention to detail.

Under the Gun in Plano handles everything from stock and recoil pad work to cleaning, repairs, modifications, machining, choke work, barrel work, and more.

If your shotgun needs a little attention, bring it by the shop and let’s take a look.

Sometimes the coolest guns that come through the door aren’t here for a major repair—they’re here because somebody knows we’re going to appreciate them.

One of our customers stopped by Under the Gun recently with a &T BWC9, and this is definitely one of those fi****ms that makes everybody in the shop stop what they’re doing for a minute.

The BWC9 is a folding 9mm platform built around the SIG P320 fire control unit. Its aluminum chassis folds down into a compact package, uses a spring-loaded deployment system, and comes equipped with an ACRO P-2.

It’s an unusual setup, and exactly the kind of thing we enjoy getting a chance to check out.

That’s one of the things we love about being a gun shop and gunsmith in Plano, TX. We get to see everything from everyday hunting rifles and carry guns to historic fi****ms, unusual builds, and stuff you just don’t see very often.

Got a firearm that needs cleaning, repair, maintenance, upgrades, or gunsmithing work? Bring it by.

Got something cool you think we just need to see? Bring that by too.

Hunting season has a way of exposing every little thing you meant to fix on your rifle six months ago.

If your rifle needs some attention before it heads back to the field, now is the time to get it on the bench at Under the Gun in Plano, TX.

Rifle services include:

• Barrel threading
• Stock bedding
• Pre-fit barrel installation
• Barrel threading and chambering
• Trigger work
• Optic mounting

• Custom rifle work and more

Basically, if you need something done to your rifle or rifled action, we can handle it.

But don’t wait until the week before your hunt.

A little piece of fiber can make a big difference when the birds start flying.

With Texas dove season opening September 1, now is the time to give your shotgun a once-over—and that includes the sights.

If the fiber-optic sight on your shotgun is broken, missing, damaged, or just not giving you the visibility it used to, Under the Gun can replace shotgun sight fibers in-house and get you ready for the field.

It’s a small repair, but when you’re trying to pick up that front sight quickly on a fast-moving bird, you’ll be glad you took care of it before opening morning.

Dove season is just the beginning. Waterfowl, upland birds, and the rest of the Texas hunting calendar are right behind it, so don’t wait until the night before your hunt to find out something needs attention.

Need a sight fiber replaced—or have something else on your shotgun that needs a gunsmith’s attention? Bring it by Under the Gun in Plano and get it taken care of before hunting season gets into full swing.

Wrong ammo. One trigger pull. Expensive lesson.

Our client was out shooting his 7mm Re*****on Magnum with his kid when a .270 round was mistakenly loaded into the rifle.

The trigger was pulled, the bottom metal blew out, the rifle made some sounds it definitely shouldn’t make—and the range day was over.

Once the rifle made it back to the shop for inspection, the damage became a little clearer. The stock was cracked, and there may be additional internal damage because the rifle simply isn’t functioning the way it should.

The takeaway is simple: ALWAYS verify your ammunition before loading your firearm.

Check the caliber marking on the firearm. Check the box. Check the headstamp. Make absolutely sure the ammunition you’re loading matches what that firearm was designed to use.

It only takes one wrong round to turn a good day at the range into a repair job... or something MUCH worse.

Things happen. When they do, Under the Gun can help figure out what went wrong and what it’s going to take to make it right.

**FRT INSTALL SERVICE UPDATE**

Under the Gun will no longer offer FRT trigger installations for handguns, AK platforms, or R***r 10/22s.

These installations often require extensive labor while producing inconsistent results. Because reliability and safety issues can also develop after the firearm leaves our shop, we cannot confidently continue offering these services.

We would rather turn down a job than return a firearm we cannot stand behind.

**AR-platform FRT installations will remain available** and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

For dependable firearm repair, maintenance, and gunsmithing services in Plano, Texas, contact Under the Gun before bringing in your firearm.

Why Under the Gun No Longer Offers 10/22 or AK FRT Installs

After working with these setups firsthand, Richard has made the decision to discontinue FRT trigger installations on R***r 10/22 and AK-platform fi****ms.

It comes down to two things: reliability and safety.

Richard has seen too many of these setups require excessive troubleshooting, operate inconsistently, or simply fail to meet the standard he expects from a firearm leaving the Under the Gun bench.

If he can’t confidently stand behind the work, he isn’t going to offer the service.

In this video, Richard goes a little deeper into what he has experienced with 10/22 and AK FRT setups and why Under the Gun made the decision to stop installing them.
