Here's the French Drain we excavated and installed in Upper St. Clair, Pa. earlier this Spring! Water run off from the upper hillside and construction, the back lawn would take days to drain and settle after a big storm.
Underground just a few inches was a layers shale rock, preventing the water to settle anywhere but the above surface. After grading the area, adding a few inches of topsoil and sloping the new lawn. Away from the foundation to the drain, re-directing the water to a exit pipe to the front lawn.
