☑ Check - GOT ACORNS? Oak Trees?
If you have a nut producing tree, be extra sure that human related attractants are removed from the yard. Many Oak Trees are filled with Acorns right now. Black bears are eating nuts and acorns to try and gain weight before winter comes! Acorn production can influence reproduction rates, survival, movement, and overall health of the bear.
Black bears will return to the same trees every year. Black bears are very good at climbing trees. If you see a bear in a tree, leave it be. Give it space and patience and it will eventually leave!

🐻 💩 Coprophagia is the practice of eating stool (f***s).
We have had a few reports recently of BEARS eating dog 💩 p**p. Bears usually do this because not all dog food has digested. We have always recommended that homes with dogs keep their lot clean, including removing dog p**p on a regular basis, if not daily. Yes, dog p**p is in attractant. Frequent cleaning of your deck helps eliminate smells from your dog. We typically see bears in Pine Mountain Club, engaging in coprophagia late August into the fall. Bears need to put on weight to prepare for winter/torpor. This fall feeding process is called hyperphagia.

YES - Bears Eat Pumpkins (and other critters)
🐻 BEARS will walk up to anything that Looks Like PUMPKIN, SUNFLOWER seeds, BERRIES, CORN, GOURDS, BIRD houses (they eat bird eggs & babies), etc. Bears do not understand what decor is - it just looks like a food source to them! Think before you place Fall decor near your front door! Do not attract bears to your door! 🎃 Placing REAL pumpkins and/or other fruit/vegetable type items on your property is the same as feeding wildlife and may result in a $$$$ citation. A bear's sense of smell is amazing, as a bear gets closer to your door it smells everything inside your house even more magnified than when passing by.

In HOT WEATHER - Trash scent increases! Keep them clean!
CLEAN your Garbage & Recycling Bins!
— At a minimum, clean these bins with water & unscented dish soap. If you can, take them outside and use a garden hose. If there’s mold or mildew, don’t be afraid to add some bleach and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing.
— You may also opt to use the bathtub and just give them a good scrub down / soak with bleach.
— After rinsing any bin, make sure the inside & outside are dry before replacing the garbage bags.

🐻 ARE YOUR low WINDOWS CLOSED & LOCKED?
Any open window below 8 feet is easy access for bears. You must remain in the room or close low windows /sliders when you exit a room. Have a noisemaker or several noisemakers in the room that you’re in - in the event that a bear tries to enter through the screen.
Screens do not hold back bears. Also, Close your Garage Doors and lock side garage doors!
