Many divers assume Nitrox automatically makes diving safer.
Not exactly.
Nitrox contains a higher percentage of oxygen and less nitrogen — meaning your body absorbs less nitrogen during a dive. This can help reduce decompression stress and even extend your no-decompression limits.
But there’s a trade-off.
With increased oxygen comes an increased risk of oxygen toxicity at depth. That’s why every Nitrox blend has a strict Maximum Operating Depth (MOD) that must always be respected.
Nitrox doesn’t eliminate risk — it shifts it.
When used correctly, it’s a powerful tool that improves dive efficiency and reduces nitrogen loading.
Used incorrectly, it can become dangerous.
Nitrox isn’t a safety guarantee.
