Helping athletes prep, improve, and sustain bodybuilding long-term During our time together, I will cover:
•Your current training and make adjustments to your workout.
•Offseason diet for gaining muscle size.
•A break down of your diet from 1 month to 1 year from the show.

The best diet isn’t the most restrictive, complicated, or trendy—it’s the one you can consistently follow.

Before starting any plan, ask yourself: Can I realistically stick with this? Can I see myself doing it beyond the next few weeks?

If the answer is no, it probably isn’t the right approach.

Short-term perfection will never beat long-term consistency. Find a plan that fits your life, allows flexibility, and moves you forward one day at a time.

Adherence and longevity—that’s where real results are built. 💪

Throwback Thursday! I came across this old Team Franco coaching graphic and had to share it. The graphics may have changed a little over the years 😂, but the passion behind the message hasn’t.

Team Franco online coaching has been going strong since 2000, and I’m incredibly grateful for every person who has trusted me to be part of their journey—from first-time competitors to pro card winners and everyone simply working to become their best.

More than 25 years later, I’m still learning, still coaching and still just as passionate about helping people reach their goals. 💪

🎙️ FROM THE ARCHIVES — 5-YEAR REBOOT

Five years ago, I recorded “How Long Should a Contest Prep Be?” and it went on to become one of the most-listened-to episodes of the Team Franco Bodybuilding Podcast.

So I figured… why not bring it back?

It’s not a new episode. It’s a topic that’s just as relevant today as it was five years ago—and one that newer listeners may have never come across.

12 weeks? 16 weeks? 20 weeks? Longer?

There’s no magic number.

Your starting point, your body, your experience, and how aggressively you need to diet all matter. Personally, I’d rather give someone more time and make adjustments along the way than rush the process just to meet a date on the calendar.

If you're thinking about competing this fall, next spring, or sometime in 2027, this one is worth revisiting.

Same episode. Same principles. Still relevant five years later.

One of the biggest mistakes I see competitors make is competing too often.

Doing a few shows within a 2–3 month stretch is completely reasonable. It gives you the opportunity to improve conditioning, refine your presentation, and gain valuable experience.

But once prep starts dragging on for 6 months or more, it's time to ask yourself an important question...

**At what cost?**

The biggest improvements to your physique don't happen on stage—they happen during the months between shows. That's when you build muscle, improve your metabolism, recover physically and mentally, and create the physique you'll bring to your next prep.

If you find yourself having to eat less and less while doing more and more cardio just to maintain where you are, your body is trying to tell you something.

Listen to it.

Taking an off-season isn't quitting. It's investing in your future success.

The athletes who play the long game almost always end up with the best physiques and the longest careers.

**Play the long game. Your future physique will thank you.** 💪

Have you ever taken an off-season that ended up making you dramatically better? I'd love to hear your experience.

🚨 NEW PODCAST EPISODE: THE BASICS STILL WIN 🚨

We live in a world that constantly tells us to chase the next hack, the next supplement, or the next "secret" to better results.

But after more than 30 years of coaching, I've learned one thing...

The basics still win.

Too many people spend their energy obsessing over the final 10% while completely overlooking the 90% that actually drives progress.

✔️ Calories and protein
✔️ Consistent training
✔️ Recovery and sleep
✔️ Patience and discipline

That's where real results are built.

Yes, the details matter—but only after you've mastered the fundamentals. Don't let fitness become so complicated that you lose sight of what actually works.

If you've ever stressed over meal timing, the "perfect" workout, or whether blueberries are better than strawberries... this episode is for you.

Your Placement Doesn’t Tell the Whole Story 🏆

Your first goal when you start competing?

Look like you belong on stage. ✅

Then you do that, catch the bug, and naturally want more—higher placements, better trophies, maybe an overall win.

And let’s be real… we all want to win.

But your placing isn’t always the best way to measure your progress.

Bigger show? Tougher lineup? You might place lower even though you’re better.

Smaller show? Less competition? You might win without improving much at all.

And then there’s the wildcard: the judges.

What they’re looking for that day might not perfectly match what you bring. That’s part of competing, and you can’t control it.

So don’t let a number on a results sheet define your progress.

Do the work.
Improve your physique.
Bring a better version of yourself to the stage.

Because at the end of the day…

🏅 Your growth belongs to you, and no one can take that away.

Science Gives You the Blueprint. Grit Builds the Champion.

Over the last several years, science has played a major role in bodybuilding. It has taught us what is most optimal to build the best physique possible. I'm all for it and grateful for the research that's available today. I use it myself, and I use it with my clients.

But here's what science can never replace...

The willingness to push your body and mind to places they've never been before.

Whether it's training harder, staying disciplined with your nutrition, or continuing to show up when you're tired and uncomfortable, that's where real growth happens.

The best program in the world won't matter if you're not willing to put in the work.

Champions are built through grit, resilience, consistency, and the relentless pursuit of becoming better than they were yesterday.

Combine that mindset with smart planning, patience, and balance, and you'll be amazed at what you're capable of achieving.

Science gives you the blueprint. Your effort determines the outcome.
