What has failure taught you that success never could?

Jonathan's answer comes from years of coaching and hiring leaders: when he asks people about their greatest achievements, they almost always trace back to something that failed first.
But he's careful to draw a line most people miss. Failure on its own doesn't teach you anything. Sit on it, feel bad about it, and move on, and it stays a failure. Examine it, actually dig into what went wrong, and it turns into the thing that made the eventual success possible.
The difference isn't whether you fail. It's whether you're willing to look at it.

A study of 686 Fortune 500 executives, co-authored by our Founder and CEO Dr. Jonathan Kirschner and Prof. Nicky Terblanche of Stellenbosch Business School, is one of the largest qualitative examinations of coaching's impact to date. Published in the European Journal of Training and Development, every engagement in the study followed the AIIR® Method.

Most executives can tell you coaching helped them. Far fewer can tell you exactly how.
In a newly published study in the European Journal of Training and Development, AIIR Consulting analyzed 1,130 open-ended responses from 686 executives across more than 300 organizations, nearly all of whom went through coaching using the AIIR Method. Rather than asking leaders to rate their growth on a scale, the study asked them to describe it in their own words.
The most common answer wasn't confidence, or strategy, or even communication. It was how they led their teams: delegating more, engaging differently, stepping back so others could step up.
Just as telling, the feedback leaders said they received from colleagues echoed almost exactly what they said about themselves. The change wasn't just internal. People around them saw it too.
