The Orlando Police Department is hosting its 2026 Hispanic Senior Safety Summit on Tuesday, September 15, at the Engelwood Neighborhood Center.

This community event will provide Spanish-speaking seniors and their families with helpful information about personal safety, crime prevention, wellness and local resources that support safe, healthy and independent living.

Laura Lerma first saw MetroWest on roller skates in 1998, newly arrived in the U.S. and getting to know her new home one lap at a time.

More than 25 years later, she's a real estate broker in Veranda Park, a mother of two MetroWest-raised daughters, and one of the community's steadiest believers. As MetroWest marks 40 years, Laura reflects on what's kept her here: not just the golf courses and lakes, but the people.

Three years ago, Gena moved to MetroWest looking for affordability and a short commute. What she found was harder to come by: real connection.

So she built it herself. Mommy Wants A Break started as a way for moms to catch their breath — but Gena noticed something deeper going on. A lot of moms hadn't just forgotten to take a break. They'd forgotten who they were outside of everyone else's needs.

This summer, she's launching a new community, The Orlando Bad Moms Club, built around exactly that: friendships, fun, and remembering yourself again.
