July 15 is National Pet Fire Safety Dayโa timely reminder that effective emergency planning must account for every member of the household, including pets.
For fire service professionals, it is also an opportunity to reinforce practical prevention measures with the communities we serve: maintaining working smoke alarms, securing open flames and cooking areas, keeping leashes or carriers accessible and ensuring pets have current identification.
Clear planning before an emergency can improve evacuation outcomes and help first responders locate and protect animals more efficiently. ๐พ๐

๐บ๐ธ Today marks 250 years of Independence Day โ a moment to reflect on service, community, and the responsibility we share to look out for one another. As Ontario celebrates, weโre grateful for our firefighters, paramedics, and public safety partners spending the holiday on duty and ready to respond. From all of us at Local 1430, have a safe and meaningful Fourth of July.

Today, we recognize the fathers and father figures of Local 1430 who lead both at home and on the job.
Whether youโre teaching life lessons around the dinner table, coaching from the sidelines, helping with homework, or responding to emergencies when your community needs you most, the example you set reaches far beyond the fire station. Thank you for the sacrifices you make, the families you support, and the next generation you help shape every day.
Happy Fatherโs Day to all of the dads of Local 1430! ๐ค

๐๐ซ As we head into summer, fireworks season also brings an increase in avoidable incidents that place unnecessary strain on public safety resources.
Illegal fireworks put homes, businesses, pets, and entire neighborhoods at risk. They also pull firefighters and police away from other time-sensitive emergencies happening throughout our community.
If you witness illegal fireworks activity, report it through Ontarioโs reporting tools and include the location, date, time, and photos when possible. Every report helps protect Ontario and keeps crews available when seconds matter most.
๐จ Violators face fines of up to $1,000

๐ โ๏ธ As pool season gets underway, itโs a good time to make sure the same mindset we bring to preparedness on the job is reflected at home.
Take a few minutes to review water safety with your family: secure gates and barriers, establish a dedicated water watcher during gatherings, and make sure those closest to you know what to do if an emergency occurs.
When it comes to water-related emergencies, preparation is often the difference between a close call and a tragedy.

Congratulations to the members of Hybrid Paramedic Academy 55 on successfully completing the didactic phase of paramedic school.
This milestone reflects months of discipline, sacrifice, and commitment to mastering the knowledge required to provide advanced prehospital care. We are especially proud of the firefighters from Ontario Fire Department, alongside students serving with Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department and private ambulance companies, who continued serving their communities while advancing their education and professional development.
We wish the entire class continued success as they move forward into the clinical and field internship portions of their paramedic training.

๐บ๐ธ ๐ช Memorial Day carries a different weight in professions built around service, sacrifice, and duty to others. Today, we pause to remember the men and women who never made it home from military service and recognize the families who continue carrying that loss.
From our firefighters to the Ontario community, we hope the day is spent with reflection, gratitude, and respect for what was given in service to this country.

๐๏ธ๐ฅ Who remembers this apartment fire last October? During Building Safety Month, incidents like this are a reminder that multi-family fires demand disciplined coordination from the first minute โ reading conditions, protecting exposures, searching when needed, and staying locked in with the crew beside you.
For the community, building safety starts before the emergency: working smoke alarms, closed bedroom doors, clear exits, and knowing two ways out can buy critical time when conditions change fast.

๐ง ๐งโ๐ Mental Health Awareness Month is an important reminder that the stress carried in this profession does not always stay on the fireground.
Long shifts, difficult calls, disrupted sleep and the pressure to constantly perform at a high level can take a toll over time โ which is why taking care of your mental health has to be treated with the same seriousness as your physical health.
Sometimes that means stepping outside for fresh air after a tough shift, getting out for a walk, making time for the things you enjoy, practicing controlled breathing to slow things down, or simply talking to someone you trust instead of carrying everything alone.
