This month, we’re proud to recognize Koz as our Student of the Month!

Koz is the kind of person who makes a community stronger simply by being part of it. He’s constantly giving back. Sharing self-defense knowledge, teaching classes, and using what he knows to help other people become safer and more confident.

On the mats, he brings the same attitude. Good energy. Hard work. Dedication. And a willingness to help.

But what stands out most is the way Koz makes people feel welcome. Whether you’re brand new and have no idea what you’re doing or you’ve been training for years, he has a way of making you feel like you belong here.

That’s what we want our culture to be about.

Train hard. Serve others. Build people up. Make the room better because you walked into it.

Koz does exactly that.

The energy was HIGH. The training was incredible. And now it’s time to celebrate. 🥋🔥

There’s nothing quite like a room full of people who are hungry to learn, willing to work, and genuinely excited to sharpen one another.

The mats were packed. The rounds were tough. The technique was sharp. And the atmosphere was exactly what jiu-jitsu should be.

But the best part?

Watching people get recognized for the work they’ve been putting in when nobody was watching.

These promotions weren’t handed out. They were earned; through consistency, discipline, hard rounds, frustrating days, breakthroughs, and the decision to keep coming back.

Professor Mike Leake was honored to spend time on the mats teaching, training, and celebrating alongside our extended BJJ family.

So now we give these people their moment.

Iron sharpens iron. 🥋

A huge congratulations to Rogue Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on their hard earned earned promotions! Every new belt and stripe represents countless hours on the mats, difficult rounds, lessons learned, and the discipline to keep showing up.

We’re incredibly proud not only of the promotions, but of the skill, character, and quality of jiu-jitsu being built within their academy. Watching our extended Leake BJJ family grow and carry these standards forward is something special.

Thank you for welcoming Professor Mike Leake out to teach a seminar, share some knowledge, and most importantly get on the mats and grow together as a team.

Jiu-jitsu is bigger than one academy. It’s a lineage, a family, and a commitment to making one another better.

That first class where you feel completely lost...
The first shrimp that feels awkward.
The first escape that actually works.
The first stripe.
The first time you choose to come back after getting absolutely humbled.

We tend to celebrate the big moments - the promotions, medals, submissions, victories.

But God reminds us not to despise the beginning.
Because character is rarely built in spectacular moments. It’s built quietly, through hundreds of small decisions to show up, learn, fail, listen, and try again.

So if you're at the beginning, don't rush it.
There is something sacred about being a beginner.
Stay humble. Stay teachable. Keep showing up.

We remember. We honor. We do not forget.

At Leake Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we believe what happens on the mats should shape the kind of people we become off them.

We train courage when things get uncomfortable.
Discipline when quitting would be easier.
Humility when we fail.
Resilience when we get knocked down.
And strength, not simply to be strong, but to be capable of protecting and serving others.

On September 11, 2001, Americans demonstrated those values in ways far greater than anything we will ever experience inside a gym.

First responders ran toward danger. Ordinary men and women helped strangers. Americans chose courage, sacrifice, service, and unity in the face of unimaginable evil.

That example matters to us.

Because when we teach a child at Leake BJJ to be brave, when we teach a student to keep going when they're exhausted, or when we remind someone that strength carries a responsibility to protect others,we are teaching values meant to leave the mats with them.

Jiu-jitsu is what we train.
Character is what we're building.

Today, we remember the 2,977 lives lost and honor those who ran toward danger when others desperately needed someone strong enough and brave enough to help.

May we raise another generation that knows their history, remembers their heroes, serves their neighbors, and understands that real strength is demonstrated by what you are willing to do for others.

Your homeschool day need to include more than academics!

At Leake Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we’ve spent years building a school where kids can learn, grow, be challenged, and belong. Our Homeschool BJJ classes bring that same experience to families looking for something meaningful during the school day.
