The Urban Weatherization Academy was designed to tackle two major challenges at once: local workforce development and the massive demand for building science experts. From day one, this 6-week intensive pilot equips students with industry certifications, technical mastery, and career readiness.

PART 1: THE MISSION | Launching Long Island’s Clean Energy Pipeline

History was made in Hempstead, NY. The Urban Weatherization Academy has officially launched its inaugural pilot cohort, marking a major milestone for clean energy workforce development on Long Island.

As the demand for energy efficiency, building science, and green construction accelerates, regional contractors face a critical shortage of skilled labor. This pilot program directly bridges that gap by transforming local talent into certified, job-ready professionals.

Can "Ninja Star" blades generate actual electricity? 🥷💨

During our wind turbine lab, one student team built a blade design that looked more like a ninja star.

The results?

📈 22.7 Volts once it picked up momentum!

🧠 The takeaway: Thicker blades needed higher wind speed (12–13 mph) to start spinning, but once they got momentum, they produced maximum voltage!

In our labs, every experiment — even the crazy ones — teaches us valuable physics and engineering principles. ⚡️
