This Monday, we do Murph. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

Lt. Michael Murphy was a Navy SEAL who gave everything for his teammates and his country on June 28, 2005, in the mountains of Afghanistan. He was 29 years old. This workout was something Murph was something he’d do on a regular basis while on his base - he called it ā€œBody Armorā€ā€¦ and was later named in ā€œMurphā€ in his honor.

When we show up and do this together, we’re not just working out. We’re remembering. We’re saying thank you; not with words, but with sweat and effort and every rep we don’t want to do but push through anyway. That’s the point. The discomfort is the honor.

And that’s what makes Murph so special as a community experience. We suffer together. We cheer each other on. We scale it to our ability, we pick our strategy, and we give what we’ve got… because that’s what they gave for us. Every single one of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice deserved people who show up fully. So that’s what we do.

You don’t have to be an elite athlete to honor a hero. You just have to try.

🄩 And when we’re done we EAT. Barbecue potluck starts at 11am! Bring a dish, bring your family, bring your appetite. You’ll have earned every bite. šŸ»

See you on the other side. šŸ™

Shout out to our guy David.
When David started, he was already pretty fit. But like a lot of people, he was missing solid mechanics and fundamentals in movements like squats, deadlifts, pull-ups, push-ups, and more.

Over the past few months we’ve been working on improving his range of motion, cleaning up movement patterns, and building the kind of foundation that somehow got overlooked for years, all while continuing to improve his strength, health, and overall fitness.

Now that those fundamentals are coming together, we’re starting to see him unlock some really cool advanced skills. This pegboard climb was his first day ever trying it.

That’s how this works. Build a strong foundation, stay consistent, and new doors start opening.

We all start somewhere. Most people are capable of far more than they realize.

Show this man some love!

šŸ’š Happy Mothers Day to all you badass moms!
Here’s to all the moms who lead by example…. who show their sons and daughters what a strong woman looks like. To all the moms who prioritize their family… AND their health and fitness. To all the moms who pave the way for their families so their kids don’t face the same struggles they’ve had to overcome. To all the moms who work two jobs and overtime to get a healthy dinner on the table. To all the moms who believed in themselves when belief was hard to find. To all those moms who gave us a shoulder to cry on. To all the moms who know how to pick us up. To all the moms who embody love, kindness AND empowerment. To all those moms who cook, clean and squat below parallel. To all those moms reimagining what it is to be a strong mom!
Happy Mother’s Day! You inspire us! You uplift us! You raise us! Your love and kindness is our foundation. You are our rock! Thank you and keep crushing it! šŸ’

šŸ’š You might think CrossFit is all about big lifts and intense workouts… and while our workouts can absolutely have that, they’re also infinitely scalable, meaning every workout can be made 100% perfect for any athlete walking through our door; beginner and elite alike.

Whether you’re chasing a podium or just trying to keep up with your grandkids, our coaches are passionate about meeting you exactly where you are.

At CrossFit Coney Island, we build more than fitness. We’re building function. We want you looking great on the beach, feeling strong, and able to go on long hikes with your grandkids.

The secret? Show up. Consistently. Do your best with what you have today.
That’s not just the workout, it’s a mindset… and that’s the whole point.
