From MileSplit - He’s not the only member of the AAIS setting records. Marshall Brown has been on a roll this Spring across a few events.
His first dabble in the big leagues was when he dipped under 2:30 for 1000m indoors, placing eight in Feds at the State Meet. Outdoors, that translated early to a 4:15 Mile at Red Raiders.
At the Outdoor State Meet, that time took a big jump. Latching on to the final lap kick, Brown crossed the line in 5th overall, in one of the historically fastest finals of all time. His mark of 4:10.16 for the 1600m was stellar. That mark converts to the mile at 4:11.56, where one week later, he would run 4:11.59 for the true mile at New Balance.
His converted time dips under the former Sophomore State Record, set by Brian Rhodes-Devey twenty years ago in 2005. There, Devey ran 4:13.49 for the full mile at the Eddy Meet.
One of the perks of running the mile at Nationals is that you also get a 1500m split. Once an official distance in New York, the sophomore State Record was one of the oldest on the books, shared by Daniel Webster at 3:57.4. Brown bested both of them by splitting 3:54.02.
