Today is our final day of Summer Camp!
StreetSquash Summer Discovery was an absolute success. Over the course of six weeks, our rising 5th to 8th graders in Harlem engaged in learning, athletic development, and personal growth.
On the squash courts, campers hit the ground running daily to master athletic fundamentals, discipline, and a shared love for the sport. In our academic and career exploration modules, students tackled hands-on projects focused on entrepreneurship, explored magnetism, and applied the scientific method to invent their own food recipes. Campers also gained real-world financial skills by managing Class Bank accounts, earning, saving, and spending SquashBucks to better understand spending habits.
For health and wellness, students crafted papier-mache volcanoes to explore emotional regulation and manage anger.
Through our partnership with Reel Works, student filmmakers stepped into key production roles to interview peers and gain practical hands-on media skills.
They also built vital, life-saving swimming skills at Lehman College through our partnership with Galaxy Swim.
To round out the summer, our weekly field trips brought campers across the city and beyond to explore new places and experience hands-on fun. Campers enjoyed trips to the movie theater, the National Museum of Mathematics, the Museum of Ice Cream, Sloomoo Institute, Mercer Labs, the SeaGlass Carousel, and Adventureland.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to our corporate partners who spent time with our campers this summer. Thank you to the staff and interns from Sprott Inc. for hosting an interactive science workshop on magnetism and joining our students on the courts. Thank you as well to the team from T. Rowe Price for leading an engaging workshop on artificial intelligence and sharing valuable insights into STEM career pathways.
Our campers return to school this fall equipped with new skills, lasting friendships, and the confidence to succeed as future leaders. Thank you to everyone who made this summer so memorable.

On Saturday, we brought our alumni together for our annual Alumni BBQ in Morningside Park. Nearly 50 former students across several graduating classes stopped by to catch up, play games, share a meal, and network. Special thanks to Kirsten and Kerisha from our College Access team for organizing such a wonderful event. Seeing so many familiar faces back together in one place was fantastic.

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the way we learn, work, and solve problems, ensuring that young people have access to AI education is more important than ever.
Employees from T. Rowe Price visited StreetSquash to lead an interactive GenAI workshop for campers.
During the session, volunteers introduced key technology concepts, breaking down the roles of software engineers and data scientists, how large language models function, and why critical thinking is essential when reviewing AI-generated responses. Campers put their knowledge to the test through a hands-on activity on Code.org, building their own AI models to classify fish and learning about training data bias along the way. Students also examined movie posters to analyze the differences between human-made and AI-generated artwork. The workshop wrapped up with an open Q&A about STEM career paths and daily life in the tech industry.
Thank you to the ._rowe_price team for volunteering their time, sharing their expertise, and partnering with StreetSquash to inspire young learners!

On Tuesday, staff and interns from Sprott Inc. visited StreetSquash to teach campers about the science of magnetism. After the lesson, campers put their new knowledge into action by racing magnetic cars, followed by a competitive round of Magnet Jeopardy.
To wrap up the day, Sprott volunteers joined StreetSquashers on the court for an energetic session of squash.
Thank you Sprott!

Today was our first Field Trip Friday of the summer, and our campers set out to explore three amazing locations!
Team 1 headed to the movies to catch Minions & Monsters. Team 2 experienced the immersive exhibits at Mercer Labs, discovering the intersection of art and technology. Team 3 visited the Sloomoo Institute for a gooey, slime-filled adventure.
All of our campers had a fantastic time today. We are already looking forward to kicking off week two of Summer Discovery on Monday!

You typically don't hear "book club" and summer camp" in the same sentence. But in addition to squash, swimming, field trips, and all the other "traditional fun" activities associated with a summer camp, a new initiative we have at Summer Discovery this year is "Book Club" Aimed at increasing participants' reading and writing levels through interactive activities such as comprehension questions, class discussions, and writing prompts, book club is designed to limit frequent learning gaps that occur during the summer months.
This, along with fun STEM-related activities, ensures that campers keep their minds sharp and are one step ahead once the new school year approaches.
And seeing smiles this wide during just day one of book club, tells us that we've found that perfect balance of fun and education all in one.
