The “Fanchor” 👀 A common intermediate follower mistake: placing the final step of your triple without actually completing the weight transfer. A true anchor is stable on the last step, and ideally is followed by stretching back into the end zone.

(Hint: anchor is not the same thing as stretch)

3 months ago vs. now.

This routine started as a Routinetensive we did here in Vancouver - dancers working through steps, timing, and connection. Last Friday, they debuted the final product in front of over 800 people at Robson Square Westie Night. Growth looks like this: showing up, putting in the reps, and trusting the process.

This one’s for our advanced dancers, the ones who show up week after week, seek coaching, push each other to get better, and remind everyone watching what’s possible with West Coast Swing. Watching you light up Robson Square on Friday was a reminder of why we do this.

Thank you for inspiring the next generation of dancers coming up behind you. We see you, and we’re so proud of you!

Robson Square, you showed up big. Huge thank you to everyone who danced, watched, and cheered at Westie Night this Friday, hosted by us, Myles and Tessa. An 800-person free intro lesson, over 1,000 people out dancing throughout the night, and a community that keeps growing every summer. This is why we love West Coast Swing.

We hear these every single week when students are considering the Swing Literacy DDP but hesitate.

Let’s dissect this…

First of all, I loved this gushy dance with Aidan Keith-Hynes because of his patience and expert manipulation of flow.

Now let’s get into it… As a DJ, he knows the beat is about to drop at the beginning of phrase change, but instead of panicking or directing a big trick, he sets me up with an invitation and trusts me to hit it however I want and he supports my choice.

And rather than rushing through that redirection, I’m “hanging” in that counterbalance to build potential energy and anticipation that releases forward with acceleration.
