Join anatomy nerd extraordinaire Lissa Michalak for a practical 3-hour exploration of the body in belly dance.

You’ll explore:
✨ Bones, joints & major muscle groups used in belly dance
✨ Common dance injuries & safer movement practices
✨ How anatomy can improve your teaching
✨ Working with seniors, pregnant students, kids, teens & students with physical limitations

Lissa has taught movement for 23+ years and is a certified Dynamic Embodiment® practitioner and Somatic Movement Therapist specializing in musculoskeletal injuries. She has trained teachers through the Kane School of Core Integration, Bellyqueen School and Moving For Life®.

Turkish Style 9/8: The Ladies – Join Kaeshi for a fun and energetic choreography to “The Ladies” by the wildly popular Brooklyn-based band Balkan Beat Box. Learn how to recognize, count, and clap the infectious 9/8 rhythm that is celebrated throughout Turkey and Eastern Europe.

This class explores Turkish folkloric and Romani-inspired dance vocabulary, introducing authentic steps, gestures, and styling while building a dynamic choreography. Students will learn many beloved Turkish dance movements, including the basic Turkish step, pelvic drops, fist hits, and more. Optional finger cymbals are welcome for dancers who would like an extra challenge and authentic flair. Suitable for dancers with previous belly dance experience.
