Opera Slavica featured artist of the day is Julie-Anne Hamula, Soprano
Where are you from originally? Orlando, FL
Where do you reside now? Fair Lawn, NJ
Role (s)- Maddalena
What's your favorite part about singing in Russian? I love the different colors of the consonants and vowels- it provides such nuance to the music!
Least Favorite? It is very difficult for American speakers to get the hang of the many unique sounds to Russian
Favorite Russian Opera? Eugene Onegin
What else do you enjoy besides singing? I love cooking, travelling, gardens (even though I don't have one), and being a detective.
What's your most epic stage story? (Fail or triumph!) Once I was singing with a pretty renown tenor in an Opera Gala. Before I went onstage to sing with him, my toe got a terrible cramp- the kind where it shoots out and all you can do is bite your tongue to make sure you don't scream. Alas, I had to sing the entire Lucia sextet with my toe cramping and all I could think the entire time was to not make a scene and start jumping around on one foot!
