Rangers sign forward Filip Chytil to a new 4 year contract extension.

The deal carries a cap hit of $4.43 million, and kicks in for the 2023-24 season. Chytil's current contract is a 2 year bridge deal worth $2.3 million per season.

The 23 year old is in the midst of a career year with 22 goals and 42 points through 66 games. He averages 14:34 ATOI per game. Chytil represents a 1/3 or the Rangers “Kid Line," which features Alexis Lafreniere and Kaapo Kakko on the flanks.

The Oilers have added forward depth in trading for centerman Nick Bjugstad from the Yotes.

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired veteran NHL center Nick Bjugstad and defenseman Cam Dineen from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a 2023 3rd round pick and defense prospect Michael Kesselring,

Arizona agreed to retain 50% of Bjugstad's $900,000 salary.
Per the rule’s written in the current CBA, each team is allowed a maximum of 3 retention slots. The Coyotes have now used the maximum three retention slots and are ineligible to add another until July 1, according to CapFriendly. Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Patrick Kane are the other partial contracts on Arizona's ledger.

According to CapFriendly, the Oilers had approximately $450,000 in deadline cap space before acquiring Bjugstad. This leaves Edmonton right at the salary cap ceiling, pending any further trades prior to tomorrow’s 3pm deadline.

The Oilers made a move earlier this week, when they traded a package of picks, NHL defenseman Tyson Barrie, and prospect Reid Schaefer in return for defenseman Mattias Ekholm.

The Rangers have reportedly acquired Patrick Kane from the Blackhawks in a 3 team trade.

The New York Rangers reportedly have acquired Patrick Kane from the Chicago Blackhawks, sources told Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.

According to Frank Seravalli, New York and Chicago plan to conduct a 3 team trade call Tuesday evening.

The Rangers are reportedly expected to send a conditional 2023 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick to Chicago.

The Blackhawks will retain 50% of Kane's $10.5-million cap hit, while the Arizona Coyotes will act as the 3rd party and take on 25% of his salary. The Coyotes will receive a 2025 3rd round pick from the Rangers as part of this deal.

According to Cap Friendly, the Rangers are unable to fit Kane into their salary cap until after 5 p.m. on Tuesday. New York would be left with $1,600 in cap space assuming Kane is added to the Rangers roster, with double retention, his cap hit will be $2.625 million.

The have traded forward Puljajarvi to the for the Signing Rights to RFA forward Patrik Puistola.

Puljujarvi has 5 goals and 14 points in 58 games this season. The 24 year old tallied a career high 14 goals and 36 points last season.
His QO (Qualifying Offer) is $3 mil this summer.

The NJ Devils have acquired Timo Meier from the SJ Sharks for a package of players and picks.

On Sunday the 2 teams announced that New Jersey has acquired Meier from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for rookie winger Fabian Zetterlund, forward Andreas Johnsson, prospects Shakir Mukhamadullin and Nikita Okhotiuk, a conditional 1st round pick in 2023 and 2024, and a 2024 7th round pick.

The Devils also received defensemen Scott Harrington and Santeri Hatakka, forward Timur Ibragimov, goalie prospect Zachary Emond, and a 2024 5th round pick.

The Jets have reportedly acquired Forward Nino Niederreiter from Nashville.

Per Elliotte Friedman, the Winnipeg Jets have acquired forward Nino Niederreiter from the Nashville Predators for a 2024 2nd round draft selection.

Bruins have acquire Orlov and Hathaway from the Caps.

The Boston Bruins have acquired forward Garnet Hathaway and defenseman Dmitry Orlov from the Washington Capitals in exchange for forward Craig Smith, a 2023 1st round pick, a 2025 2nd round pick, and a 2024 3rd round pick, both teams announced Thursday.

The Capitals will retain 50% of Orlov's salary as part of the trade. The Minnesota Wild are also retaining an additional 25% and sent Boston the rights to forward Andrei Svetlakov in exchange for the Bruins' 2023 5th round draft pick.

Boston's pair of new acquisitions can both become unrestricted free agents in the summer. Before retention, Orlov carried a cap hit of $5.1 million, but he'll now cost the Bruins $1.275 million. Hathaway, meanwhile, comes with a $1.5-million price tag.

Orlov and Hathaway were set to be scratched for Thursday's game against the Anaheim Ducks for trade related reasons.

Nashville forward Ryan Johansen will miss 12 weeks following leg injury and reconstructive surgery.

A skate blade cut Johansen during Tuesday's victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

On Tuesday Ryan Johansen was helped to the locker room at 16:43 of the 2nd period in a 5-4 SO win over the Vancouver Canucks after the skate blade of Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes appeared to contact the back of his lower right leg.

The Predators are already without star forward Filip Forsberg, who's missed 5 games with an upper-body injury. Johansen's absence will not help Nashville's playoff chances, as they’re 7 points back of the last wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Johansen has 28 points with a line of 12-16 in 55 games so far this season while averaging 15:46 per contest. The 30 year old is in the 6th season of an 8 year, $64 mil contract signed back in 2017.

The Sens trade Zaitsev to Hawks for future considerations.

As per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Ottawa Senators have traded defenseman Nikita Zaitsev, a 2nd round pick in 2023, and a 4th round pick in 2026 to the Chicago Blackhawks for future considerations.

Zaitsev is signed through next season at a $4.5 mil cap charge. He isn’t known for his offensive prowess, with a line of 0-5-5 points. He does However play hard defensive zone minutes and still holds his own in terms of his underlying stats.

With the Hawks in a similar situation as the Sens and the market for Dmen so high, one has wonder what the Hawks plan to do with Zaitsev.
They still have more than a week before the trade deadline and may plan to flip him again and maximize on the return.

Rangers bring back Tyler Motte in trade with Sens.

Both teams have announced the Ottawa Senators have traded forward Tyler Motte to the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Julien Gauthier and a 2023 conditional 7th round pick.

If the Rangers advance to the second round of the playoffs, the pick will upgrade to the lower of the two sixth-round selections New York holds.

Motte was initially expected to miss Ottawa's afternoon clash against the St. Louis Blues for trade-related reasons.

This will mark Motte's second stint with the Rangers. He was also on the move during last year's trade deadline when the Vancouver Canucks shipped him to New York in exchange for a 2023 fourth-round pick. Motte didn't register a point in 9 regular-season games in NY, however, Motte scored 2 goals in 15 playoff games during the Rangers' run to the Eastern Conference Final.

Gauthier, 25, has 6-3 for 9 points in 40 games with the Rangers this season. Initially drafted 21st overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2016, Gauthier has 27 points in 136 career NHL games.

New York Rangers acquire Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues.

The teams have announced today that the Rangers have acquired forward Vladimir Tarasenko and defenseman Niko Mikkola in exchange for a conditional 1st round draft pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, a conditional 4th round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, plus F Sammy Blais, and Hunter Skinner.
