💬 FAN ENGAGEMENT = CLIMATE ACTION 💬
In Session 7 of the Champions Community, we explored football’s climate superpower: fan engagement.
❤️ The beating heart of the game has always been its fans - and when players and supporters unite for something bigger than football, incredible things can happen.
⚽️ With guidance from guest speaker Katie Cross (Pledgeball), our Champions discovered how authentic engagement can build connection, participation, trust, and impact.
🥅 It’s a reminder that football’s most exciting opportunity isn’t just on the pitch - it’s in how we use the power of fan connection to create real climate impact.
🌍 When fans and players move together, football’s greatest strength becomes its greatest force for change.

⚽🌍 Pitches in Peril: How Climate Change Is Threatening Football ❓
From World Cup stadiums to the grassroots pitches where legends were made, climate change is already disrupting the game, and it’s only getting worse.
A new report by Football For Future, Common Goal, and climate experts Jupiter Intelligence reveals four urgent truths:
🔥 14 of 16 venues are projected to exceed safe-play heat thresholds by 2050.
🚫 11 could face “too hot to play” conditions.
🌱 The grassroots pitches where legends like Messi, Ronaldo, and Salah learned the game are already being lost to heat, drought, and flooding.
📣 87% of fans say climate change is already affecting football, and nearly 9 in 10 want their clubs to lead the way.
For the first time, climate scientists and footballers have come together to show that without urgent climate action, the future of football is at risk.

Last week, our Founder Elliot Arthur-Worsop had the pleasure of chairing a panel discussion on “Tackling Sustainability in Sport” at the UCL Sustainability Leadership Conference, a 3-day event which aims to upskill and inspire students of any degree programme to become sustainability leaders in their later careers.
🤝 Elliot was joined by Claire Poole (), () and Freddie Daley ().
🤩💫 The discussion covered the origins of the sport and sustainability movement, the role of athlete advocacy, the unique challenges of sport, and more.
A brilliant discussion with friends from across the sector, with an engaged and inspiring student audience!
