Introducing the Football For Future Summer Academy!!

We’re excited to announce the launch of the Football For Future Summer Academy - a brand new educational experience for young people who love football.

Over two immersive days, participants will explore the game beyond the pitch through professional coaching, exclusive club experiences, industry masterclasses and life skills workshops.

Our mission is simple: use football as a vehicle to help young people develop confidence, curiosity and character.

Students will play football, learn about the history and future of the game, hear from professionals working across the industry, build new friendships and experience English football from the inside.

As with everything we do at Football For Future, sustainability is woven throughout the programme, helping young people understand how football can be a force for positive social and environmental change.

This August we’re launching our first pilot in London, bringing together a small group of students to help shape what we hope becomes a flagship educational programme for the years ahead.

Launching our Playable Future Blueprint - to protect the future of football!

Football is already feeling the impact of the climate crisis. Community clubs and grassroots pitches are under disproportionate strain.

This is being felt in a very tangible, measurable way: playable days. How many playable days are being lost each year to extreme weather? And how can we protect playable days, in order to protect football and the social benefits that it delivers for communities?

That’s why we’ve developed our Playable Future Blueprint: an operational framework for climate-proofing community football infrastructure and tournament legacy investment.

It provides football’s organising bodies with a transferable model to integrate climate-risk safeguards across the lifecycle of grassroots football developments, ensuring a playable future for generations to come.

With the launch, we’re welcoming opportunities to work with football’s governing bodies, tournament organisers and regional authorities to integrate this model and deliver a playable future.

By securing the places where we play our shared game, we help protect our shared home.

Last week, we hosted our Football Climate Summit in New York, alongside Columbia University Sustainability Management.

You couldn’t write the timing. We arrived as wildfire smoke blanketed the Manhattan skyline, ahead of the World Cup Final weekend. Hazy skies and air quality warnings added to a World Cup already disrupted by unplayable heat and extreme weather.

We hosted senior leaders from football, climate, infrastructure, academia and philanthropy to address exactly those issues.

⚽ How can football’s major tournaments become global accelerators of climate adaptation?
⛈️ How many playable days will we lose to climate change, without investment in climate resilience?
🏟️ How can we protect the future of our game?

We launched our Playable Future Blueprint, heard from our expert panel on “Risk to Readiness: Football’s Climate Future”, and held focused roundtables to turn ideas into action.

One afternoon, one room, and one shared ask: protect community football from the climate realities we are already facing.

This summer - one year ahead of AFCON 2027 - we premiered Pitches in Peril: Floods In Mathare at the British High Commissioner’s Residence in Nairobi.

What started as a small documentary screening became a packed evening bringing together football leaders, government, climate experts, development organisations and the Mathare community itself.

The film explores how climate change is already affecting grassroots football in Kenya, and why protecting community pitches means protecting the opportunities, belonging and hope they provide.

With one year to go until AFCON 2027, we hope this is just the beginning of a much bigger conversation about climate resilience and tournament legacy across East Africa.

As England get ready to battle Norway in a sweltering Miami, a heatwave is persisting back home ☀️🥵

Temperatures of 35°C or higher have now been recorded in May, June and July of the same year for the first time in the UK weather record, according to the Weather from the Met Office. These hotter spring and summers have implications for the future of football.

Extreme heat is changing when, where and how grassroots football can be played. ⚽️🌡️

As heatwaves become more frequent, community clubs need practical adaptation support to protect players, staff and pitches, and keep the game accessible for everyone.
