Five Boroughs Golf

Don’t expect resort accommodations or a stuffy country club experience; instead, expect a pure golf experience in the heart of the historic Borscht Belt region, where workers, visitors, and their families have left their marks here since the 1920s.

Since taking over operations at Sullivan County Golf Club—which recently celebrated its centennial—Tom and his team have thoughtfully renovated the main structure, which houses the pro shop and Otto’s, the local bar and restaurant.

A quick walk through the building lets you know firsthand that history reigns supreme here, and that modernization comes only when absolutely necessary. If you ask Tom if expanding to 18 holes is on the horizon, his response is definitive: “No chance. Nine holes is just right.”

As Tom explains it, “People can expect a place where you can feel at home. A place where they are going to be welcome. Bring your dog, no tee times, no fuss—just come enjoy yourself. We built this place the way we would want it to be if we were visiting a golf course that we didn’t know.”

We were all visitors on that day, and we were welcomed as family. All of the staff, including Tom himself, solidified what it means to go “beyond the boroughs” and find places that are truly built for visitors.

What makes the clubhouse special is how it combines civic function with cinematic design: bronze fixtures, dramatic fireplaces, curved windows, and WPA-era craftsmanship turned a municipal golf clubhouse into one of NYC golf’s hidden architectural gems.
