Growing up in racing, you quickly learn that this sport is much more than horses, it’s a community. As a child, every person on the backside was a babysitter, and every horse in those barns belonged to all of us in a way. Not because we owned them, but because when something was wrong, you spoke up. You came together, made a plan, and did whatever was needed to take care of the horse, regardless of whose name was on the stall. When something devastating happens at a racetrack anywhere in the country, it leaves a pit in your stomach. But when tragedy strikes a place you called home for so many years, it takes on an entirely different weight. Today, and for the foreseeable future, all I can think about is the tremendous loss this barn fire represents for our entire community. Our team sends its heartfelt condolences to our neighbors across the street, the entire Mangiardi team, Tim Benson, Abby Adsit, and everyone affected by this tragedy. The loss they have suffered is unimaginable. With that being said, we are using our Oklahoma training track barn as a drop-off location for anyone who would like to donate supplies. Items such as buckets, halters, lead shanks, snaps, and other barn necessities are greatly appreciated. I will personally deliver all donated items. In addition, Cherie DeVaux, several local breeding farms, and members of the community have generously donated incredible raffle and auction items to benefit the Saratoga harness horsemen affected by this loss. I will be sharing more information about those items here and on my personal page as details are finalized. Design by Jessica Hallett, EMT
