I think some of the big things this practices quietly teaches is empowerment, self-reliance, confidence, and agency.
I’ve been practicing yoga since 2001. Most of that time, alone.
It started with an old Jane Fonda VHS tape my Mom used during pregnancy. Later, I was lucky to spend a few years immersed in a deep NYC yoga studio/shala community, just taking everything in. Then came Mysore, India in 2007. After that, the path became personal again with periods of deep learning with the Jois family when they were still teaching together, later with Sharath Jois in Mysore, then returning home to keep the practice going on my own, and back again.
There’s so much value in having an in-person teacher and community. But this practice also teaches independence. How to be alone. How to connect with ourselves. Agency. Devotion. Spirituality. Trust. It’s a balance.
As householders, we have one foot in everyday life and the other in this deeper practice.
I love supporting practitioners who are practicing at home, without a teacher, or who are looking for guidance or mentorship along the way. Especially those interested in Sharath-style practice — gentle but serious. Breath-based but disciplined. Specific, yet soft.
A practice not built around deep physical adjustments, but around helping students develop their own internal sense of knowing, capability, and connection. Learning how to let the energy flow. Steady and sweet.
After a wonderful first batch of weekly and monthly virtual group sessions, I’m so happy to be announcing a second batch starting next week for dedicated practitioners, along with a small number of private one-on-one virtual sessions this summer.
All levels are welcome. What matters most is sincerity, consistency, and a real interest in the practice over time.
DM me if you’re interested.

In this International Yoga Day virtual session from Egypt, Usha Rani Chittoor || Ashtanga Yoga Practitioner🧘🏻♀️ reflects on her recent travels and teaching experiences, sharing how trust, devotion, and consistent practice have deepened her understanding of yoga. She explores the theme of healthy aging, emphasizing that yoga is far more than physical postures. It is a lifelong path of balance, patience, and inner growth. Through personal stories and practical wisdom, she encourages practitioners to release attachment to outcomes, stay committed to the process, and cultivate lasting peace and contentment from within.
