Spoiler alert: The baby weights in the Pilates studio aren’t for gaining muscle mass in the arms. They’re for challenging posture!

But they are soooo adorbs. Especially those little 1lb ones. Sooo cute! 🥰❤️🤣

They also get deceptively heavy, fast!

Small business owners wear many hats. 🎩

(I was talking about the larger dimensions of the footbars on modified reformers making it more difficult to find center in Stomach Massage, and how you can bring your feet down to the frame to “find it.”🤪)

Soooo many Pilates lovers have a love-hate relationship with the Pilates exercise, stomach massage.

I think part of the problem is that the footbar on a lot of reformers is too high for the exercise. The dimensions make it more difficult to connect into your center, and “find it.”

One option is to try it from the frame.

Of course you can also play around with the spring settings, and where you are sitting.

Also, focus on the “in.” REALLY pull that carriage in to the point you’re squishing your tummy with your thighs with lifted heels. You’ll feel major abdominal activation this way. Then try to keep the activation on the way out.

Also make sure you’re pulling your shoulder blades onto your back, and lifting your spine so that your full torso is fully activated in both the front and the back.

There are a lot of other options both around the studio and on the reformer to build this exercise.

I used to hate it too, and it’s now one of my favorites. Give yourself some grace and some time and play around a bit and see what happens!

We get too focused on “doing” the exercise, but the point is not the exercise itself. The point is to build your body by building skills necessary to complete the exercise so that you can experience real growth and power.

It takes time. It takes repetition. It takes concentration and focus. But when the payoff comes and you get to experience the exhilaration of doing g the thing you couldn’t do… MAGIC! 🪄
