Constant reminders can accidentally train children
to rely on the parent’s voice
instead of building their own responsibility.

Over time, the brain learns:

“Someone else will remember for me.”

Research on executive function shows kids develop responsibility through:

ownership
practice
natural consequences
consistent routines

Not endless prompting.

The goal is not perfection.

It is helping children slowly move from:

being reminded
to remembering independently.

Watching this back, I’m not just seeing a TV segment. I’m seeing years of internal battles that many others battle with as well.

There were, and at time are, many days when I didn’t think I was good enough, when the goal felt too far away, and I nearly convinced myself to step back. But I’m grateful to my support system that refused to let me give up when I didn’t believe in myself.

I am proud of my younger self for pushing through the doubt, for staying kind through the exhaustion, and for showing up when it was hard. Remember it’s okay it’s hard work, to stay true to who you are, and surround yourself with likeminded people. The world becomes your oyster.

There is so much love and gratitude I keep in my heart.

Success in martial arts isn’t measured solely by the color of the medal, but by the character built in the process.
