Flow pt 1

There are some flows I watch back and I think to myself “wow- that was creative” or “that looks like it felt really good in the body” but watching this one back all I could see was the stress from the day; the effort to transition from one job to another.

It felt amazing outside and is incredible every time we have the chance to move and breathe fresh air as we practice.
But I wasn’t prepared for it.
It wasn’t my plan.

I have had an insanely busy week of events to prep for and when I got to our space to teach tonight, it was taken by another group.
I wasn’t prepared for it.
It wasn’t in my plan.

I like to move my body before I lead others. I want to be present in the same way I’m asking students to be.

But as I tried to unwind my movements were like my mind- jumbled chaotic, distracted. Everywhere but on my mat.

So I had to regroup. The class ended up going great (I think ...😉) but I had to stop. To remember leading isn’t about me or what Im prepared for or what plan I’ve devised.

It’s about letting go of control.
It’s about connecting to ourselves and to the community.
It’s about breathing in the fresh air we were gifted.
It’s feeling the breeze on our skin, the beat of our heart, the slowing of our sense of impending doom- just for a moment in time.

So while I don’t particularly enjoy this movement grouping, it’s a marker.
It’s a lesson learned and learned again.
It’s releasing my rigidity and finding the gratitude for each experience.
And that will always be important to see.

Who needs goat yoga when you have cats and dogs?

I filmed the whole 1.5 hr asana practice from this morning but TBH, is it worth watching if animals aren’t involved?

One Sunday morning during quarantine, I held a handstand for 50 consecutive seconds- my longest ever.

I didn’t video it because it came out of nowhere, and I was shocked the entirety of the hold.
I’ve spent years putting in work on my handstands.
Hours.
Daily.
For YEARS.
But as I landed, I felt this odd mix of astonishment, pride, and embarrassment. Old insecurities and lies crept in.
“Don’t brag”
“Kill your ego”
“No one cares”
etc

But ultimately I think it’s important for me to celebrate the milestones and not shy away from growth in my practice.

I’m still learning I do not have to make myself smaller for fear of anyone else’s opinion.

YOU ARE WORTHY OF CELEBRATION

A few years ago I was in Iceland with some friends. We did a day trip out on a glacier to go snowmobiling. At one point in the day the group stopped and one of the leaders said we could drink from the glacier, that it was the best water in the entire world. So I dropped down to drink from this little stream. Everyone kept telling me to push-up normally but my body was so conditioned to do vinyasa, after the push-up I literally couldn’t figure out how to lift back up without moving into upward facing dog, and then downward facing dog. My brain wouldn’t recognize another movement.

I can now say I have regained my ability to do strict pushups but it’s the clearest picture of samskara I’ve immediately connected to. The same motion done so many times it lived in my body so deeply it was almost unbreakeable.
