September 1, 2026 has been declared Dave Brown Day by Shelby County commissioners to honor longtime WMC Action News 5 Chief Meteorologist Dave Brown on his 80th birthday.

Dave is deeply beloved across the Mid-South. Throughout his 38-year career at WMC, he was a trusted voice during severe weather. Viewers remember his calm, reassuring, and down-to-earth demeanor that kept families safe during terrifying weather.

Beyond the weather, Dave co-hosted the region's massively popular Saturday morning wrestling program alongside his broadcast partner, Lance Russell. Together, they are widely considered by wrestling insiders and fans to be one of the greatest television announcing teams in wrestling history.

Happy birthday, Dave! 🎂

Superstar Bill Dundee continues to make public appearances despite dealing with advanced dementia including an event in Tupelo, Mississippi, in August 2026 to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

His son Jamie Dundee shared that he is battling late-stage dementia, living in Memphis, and mostly retired from public wrestling life, though he still attends select fan events and tributes.

Longtime rival Jerry Lawler playfully and publicly asked Dundee at a recent event if he had "one more match left in him," despite both legends dealing with significant health challenges. Dundee has not wrestled an official match since December 2019.

Hart was completely caught off guard and totally surprised when he was presented with the distinction. Hart was part of a star-studded 2026 CAC class that also featured honors for wrestling icons like Bret Hart, Ric Flair, and Dan Spivey.

The story of Memphis renaming a street for Jerry Lawler offers a fascinating angle on fame and legacy.

When the Memphis City Council approved the honorary street renaming, conventional logic pointed toward placing it near the legendary Mid-South Coliseum—the heart of Memphis Wrestling, where Lawler sold out Monday nights for decades. Instead, Lawler handpicked a quarter-mile stretch of Homer Street in Highland Heights, adjacent to Treadwell Middle School (formerly Treadwell High) where he was a former student. The street sign serves as a daily reminder that local heroes are homegrown.

For a 76-year-old icon who has survived massive health scares—including a recent stroke—there is an emotional vulnerability to this choice. The Coliseum represents an era that has passed, but the route to school represents where life began. It suggests that when looking back at a lifetime of over 160 championship titles, the walk home from school holds just as much weight as a sold-out arena.
