Cruise operators such as Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Princess Cruises have chosen not to alter their port schedules but are providing mandatory safety advisories to passengers.

Impact on Cruise Passengers & Security Measures

Enhanced Police Powers: Local authorities and Belize Defence Force soldiers are authorized to restrict freedom of movement, conduct spontaneous searches without warrants, and set up random security checkpoints.

Mandatory Identification: Cruisers must carry valid government-issued photo identification (such as a passport or driver’s license) at all times to present during increased police ID checks.

Curfew & Detention Risks: Law enforcement has expanded powers to detain individuals suspected of being public safety threats for up to 30 days.

Business Shutdowns: The Minister of Home Affairs can shut down any local business or public area abruptly if a threat to safety is suspected.
