# # Why We’re Moving to MagnaCut

At Bravo Iron & Hide, we’ve always believed that a handmade knife should be more than something that looks good—it should be a tool you can depend on.

That’s why, moving forward, MagnaCut stainless steel will become our primary blade steel.

So why MagnaCut?

MagnaCut was developed specifically for knives, and it gives us a combination of qualities that are extremely difficult to get from a single steel:

🔪 **Excellent edge retention** — It holds a working edge longer, which means more cutting and less sharpening.

💪 **Outstanding toughness** — Edge retention doesn't mean much if a blade is prone to chipping. MagnaCut offers impressive toughness for a high-performance stainless steel.

💧 **Exceptional corrosion resistance** — Blood, sweat, humidity, rain, and the outdoors can be rough on a knife. MagnaCut provides excellent rust resistance and requires less maintenance than the carbon steels traditionally used in many handmade knives.

🪨 **Practical sharpening** — Despite its performance, MagnaCut doesn't require exotic equipment just to put a good edge back on your knife.

🇺🇸 **American-made steel** — MagnaCut was developed by metallurgist Dr. Larrin Thomas and is produced by Crucible Industries in the United States.

But here's the important part:

We're not switching to MagnaCut because it's trendy. We're switching because it lets us build a better knife.

We love traditional steels like 80CrV2, and they make outstanding blades. But when we look at the kind of knives we want Bravo Iron & Hide to be known for—hard-use hunting, outdoor, EDC, and heirloom-quality knives—MagnaCut gives us the performance we're looking for without asking our customers to constantly worry about rust and maintenance.

It costs us more. It's more demanding to heat treat correctly. And it requires us to invest more into every knife we build.

We think it's worth it.

Our goal isn't to make the cheapest handmade knife on the table.

Our goal is to make the knife you'll still be carrying years from now.
