truth is it’s time to grow up a little and put my bias in the rearview. after running what i’ve run and carrying what i carry, i can’t ignore it anymore. i want a g***k 29 gen 5 in 10mm and i know good and well i’d enjoy it

my current edc is a springfield xds mod.2 osp in .45… the Lord’s caliber 🙌 and it’s served me well. but stepping into 10mm just makes sense and if you’re gonna do it, you might as well do it right

and let’s be honest… it would feel criminal not to grab a g***k at this point

but listen real close… keep that g***k V nonsense far away from me. we all saw how that went 😅

Hello it has been a while.

Let’s take a quick look at something that gets talked about a lot lately. Switches and FRT style fi****ms.

Now listen. They are cool. REALLY cool. Nobody is going to pretend that dumping a mag in a couple seconds is not exciting. But there is a serious issue that people do not talk about enough.

Accuracy.

Yep the same thing that makes people smile at the range can also be the reason someone gets hurt.

That is not me being lame. That is just being honest.

Every time a firearm fires the expanding gas and the projectile leaving the barrel create recoil. Part of that recoil pushes the muzzle upward. That upward movement is called muzzle flip.

With normal semi automatic fire you feel that quick snap and you naturally correct for it between shots.

Now imagine that happening extremely fast.

When you are dealing with something like an FRT or anything approaching automatic fire you are sending multiple rounds downrange in a very short amount of time. Five to ten rounds can leave the barrel before many shooters have fully corrected the muzzle. That means rounds can climb above your target or even clear the berm if you are not controlling the firearm properly.

And here is the part many people forget.

You are responsible for every single bullet that leaves your firearm.

If rounds go over the berm or past the target and someone gets injured you are the one who will be held responsible.

Now let’s also talk about the legal side because this is extremely important.

A “switch” or auto sear that converts a pistol or rifle into fully automatic fire is legally considered a machine gun under federal law. The part itself is classified as a machine gun by the ATF even if it is not installed in a firearm. Civilian possession of newly manufactured machine guns has been illegal since 1986 under the Hughes Amendment to the National Fi****ms Act. That means owning a switch without the proper federal registration is a serious federal felony.

Forced Reset Triggers or FRTs exist in a more complicated area. The ATF has stated that many forced reset triggers function as machine guns under federal law. Because of that classification the ATF has seized many of them and possession may be treated the same as possession of a machine gun. There are ongoing court cases about this but as it stands right now you should assume they can put you in very serious legal trouble.

Texas law generally follows federal law on this issue. If something is considered a machine gun under federal law it is also illegal for civilian possession in Texas unless it is federally registered which for modern machine guns is essentially impossible.

So yes they are cool. But cool does not mean safe and it definitely does not mean legal.

If you cannot keep rounds on target slow it down and run your firearm the way it was designed. Control beats speed every single time.

Okay, after daily carry with my new Close Quarters Carry holster, I can confidently say this thing is fantastic.

CQC Holsters Review Coming Soon

Finding a quality holster for a specific firearm is a pain unless you are running a G***k or a Sig and even Smith and Wesson can be hit or miss. Most people end up with a pile of holsters that technically fit but fall short on comfort, retention, or real world usability.

I recently ordered a holster from Close Quarters Carry, a small Florida based holster maker, and I will be reviewing it with my personal carry setup on an upcoming Facebook Live.

I personally choose .45 and here is why
For me the .45 ACP checks the most important boxes for defensive carry. Heavy bullet mass large diameter and predictable performance at realistic defensive distances. I value consistency over raw speed. With proper ammunition selection it offers strong threat stopping capability while emphasizing control restraint and accountability. Add in personal significance and training time and it becomes the platform I trust most.

Caliber debates never die so let’s break down common carry calibers and how ammunition choice plays a role.

Pros
Very low recoil and easy control
Lightweight pistols and easy concealment
Low cost allows frequent training
JHP can offer limited expansion and slightly better energy transfer than FMJ

At the end of the day there is no perfect caliber or magic bullet. Shot placement training judgment and ammunition selection matter far more than internet arguments. Carry what you can control what you train with and what you trust.
