Overcommitted, underprepared. Adventures in and around Southern California.

TRVRS Outdoors is a community of hikers, runners, climbers, and mountaineers created in the mountains of Southern California as a means of strengthening the connection between those who find growth in exploration. Pulling inspiration from the San Antonio Ridge Traverse, a legendary back country hike that begins in Azusa Canyon's East Fork and ends near Los Angeles County's tallest peak, Mount Baldy; TRVRS is about creating forward movement on and off the trail.

Hi, I'm RJ.
And it's been 5 days since my last Fool's Traverse.

(Hi, RJ.) < you guys.

Recovery has been going well. Most participants have regained feeling in their legs. Some have even begun discussing future objectives without visibly shaking.
To support this healing process, we're launching Fool's Anonymous.

No registration.
No timing.
No volunteers.
No aid stations.
No awards.

Just a bunch of hikers hanging out at Open Door Trail.

Bring a chair. Bring snacks.
Hike as much or as little as you want.

Open Door Trail, Glendora
Wednesday, July 1
5:00 PM – 8:30 PM (we can go later if you want, but at some point, I'm cracking open a beer).
Group photo at 7:00 PM

The first step is admitting you signed up.
The second step is showing up for hill repeats anyway.

SOCAL HIKER THOUGHT PROCESS

05/05/2026

21 showed up.
21 finished.

Icehouse Canyon was chaos this weekend. Parking overflowed, trail traffic everywhere. Still got organized and moving by 6:50.

All 21 made it up to the saddle in just over an hour, which is an excellent time for a large group. To me, it meant that everyone came prepared and I felt proud to bring such a strong group together. More of that energy on game day. 🃏

We made the call to skip Sugarloaf and keep the day efficient. Talked through it instead. Decision-making is part of the game.

Summited Ontario. Took a break for a photo, and some much needed libations. 🍻

The way down was full of good conversation, summer planning with new friends and decrompressing with a few beers by the cars. Some opted to soak their feet in the creek. Overall, an great time with great people. 🤌🏾

Fool’s Traverse is coming.

Also, comments if I didn't tag you. I want to make sure you're all connected!

I invented a new way to travel outdoors.

What to Bring on a Solo Day Hike (My Decision Process) 04/17/2026

A lot of gear videos showcase what to bring, but omit the why. This addresses how to plan for tough hikes before you leave the door. I hope this helps some aspiring outdoor enthusiasts consider safety and philosophy before they head out.

What to Bring on a Solo Day Hike (My Decision Process) What should you actually carry on a solo day hike, and how do you decide what makes the cut? When you’re traveling solo in remote terrain, the gear you carry ...

25 miles. 8,000 feet of vertical gain
Canelo’s longest endurance effort yet.
Hungarian Vizslas were originally bred as all-day hunting companions, covering huge distances with their handler. Those genetics translate pretty well to long mountain days.
But genetics are only part of it. We’ve built up to hikes like this through consistent training and a lot of miles together.
A good day in the San Gabriels.
And yes… he earned the steak.

🚨 Mt. Baldy closure extended to March 20th.

I’ll continue posting access and condition updates as they develop.

This Forest Order supersedes Forest Order No. 05-01-26-07 that listed the closure until February 26, 2026. No additional trails have been added to this closure. Trail closures from the previous closure order remain.
