The L.A. Kindergarten Class empowers parents through the process of finding the right elementary school for their family. We help make sense of it.

The school system in Los Angeles is complex. We keep parents informed of changes and opportunities.

Anger Management: if you’re gonna manage a team of student players, you must also manage your anger.

This coach did not intend to hit a player with the ball he kicked BUT he did kick a ball out of anger.

This coach will miss the first game AND my son’s basketball coach who threw a water bottle at the wall during a game this week, is also not going to be at our last game of the season.

Coaches… it’s just a GAME! 😉

A Ventura County high school football team will be without its head coach for Friday night’s season opener. https://ktla.com/news/california/royal-high-football-coach-investigation/

FUNNY / NOT FUNNY: So, a coach is on leave for kicking a football AT A STUDENT! That is NOT funny.

But what IS FUNNY about this, to me, is that a few nights ago, during my son’s Parks and Rec basketball game, his coach THREW A WATER BOTTLE AT THE WALL. His own son is on the team and accidentally gave up the ball to the other team. The coach was so irate that he threw his half filled plastic water bottle on the floor, but clearly felt that wasn’t satisfying enough. So he quickly picked it up and hurled it at the wall maybe 10 feet away. It sailed between two kids sitting on the bench before hitting the wall. This coach has a serious anger problem and no one even reacted - just par for the course with this guy, apparently.

The water bottle flinging and now this… Coaches need to CALM DOWN! It’s literally A GAME, guys!

Methinks that some adults really have NO BUSINESS WORKING WITH CHILDREN. That’s my takeaway. Yikes.

My adorable munchkin starts HIGH SCHOOL in the morning.

It has been such a wild ride as a parent in Los Angeles navigating school options. My utter FEAR for her safety and well being is what started all of this - The L.A. Kindergarten Class. I was so angered at how hard it was - I applied to 20 Kindergarten programs, a mix of public and private. That year of applying to schools was one of the worst years of my life. The fear of not knowing where she/we would end up consumed me. I hated every minute of it.

Ultimately, my daughter has had a phenomenal educational journey. There are amazing schools throughout Los Angeles. Finding them, getting into them, and knowing when to change course - it’s a bit of a science. You have to KNOW ALL OF THE RULES in order to continually navigate them and make the system work for your child(ren).

The L.A. Kindergarten Class has now helped thousands of parents get through this smarter and better. There IS an answer to the eternal question: what the hell is up with this convoluted system?!? It’s old and clunky and annoying. AND there are so many Bright Spots amongst the underperforming and unappealing options.

We found our way, and I want all parents to find the best possible trajectory for their kids too.

We all go through this process differently. There is not a clear cut path. Also, there is a way to Win amongst the chaos that is our school landscape.

I am so honored to be helping the parents who find me - navigating both Public and Private options.

I want every family to get into schools where their children are welcomed, challenged and cherished. I know it is possible.

This girl right here is the proof.

XOXO,
Caden, a proud Mother and Education Consultant

This page is for Parents. I’d say that 99% of the parents I have interacted with in the decade I have been coaching / counseling parents on school options are… kind and caring.

There are also lots of community members following this page who are involved in our schools as teachers, administrators, retirees who worked in schools, grandparents, etc. And the majority of people who interact with this page are also… kind and caring.

Occasionally, people interacting online might be rude, argumentative or difficult. I try to give people warnings when that happens, and ask them to be more reasonable. Sometimes that helps. When it doesn’t, I simply delete the comments and BLOCK those people from this page.

This is a BULLY-FREE ZONE. None of us need to tolerate bullies.

Parents often ask me about bullying and I know it can happen in our schools. Most schools are able to diffuse and handle it appropriately. Some do not. We all need to be vigilant and keep talking to our kids about their school environments. I truly hope this new school year will be a positive one for all of our kids.

I believe that our collective KINDNESS is powerful. I will continue to lead with kindness and to delete/block bullies from this page.

We are adults. Adult behavior is expected. I’ve got no tolerance for anything else. 😉
