Mason took Bedrock Sandals out on the golf course this weekend, one of the brands we look after.

By his own admission his swing is a work in progress, but he believes the sandals are the best golf shoes he's ever worn. Grip held up, feet felt good the whole round, and he came back a convert.

This is the part I care about. I like our team testing the products we sell, because using something yourself teaches you the product and the brand in a way nothing else does.

That understanding is what shows up in the results we get for them.

Chasing an edge everywhere except the one sitting in your warehouse?

For a lot of brands, it's fulfilment. They come to us looking for a new ad angle or the next app, and then we see the shipping, second day, third day, while the customer's expectation is set by Amazon, quick and dependable.

Fast, reliable delivery is what moves LTV, lifetime value, the total a customer spends with a brand over their lifetime. When customers know an order ships quickly and lands when promised, they come back.

Tighten fulfilment, make the timing clear, and repeat buying lifts without more ad spend.

There are two ways to build a Shopify collection, and until now you had to pick one.

Add every product by hand and you control exactly what a customer sees. Write rules instead and it runs itself, at the cost of products appearing that you would never have chosen. I have seen brands run two versions of the same collection rather than accept either.

Shopify has now changed this. You can have both in one collection, along with products pulled from other collections, single variants rather than whole products, and data from apps.

Your existing collections keep working and are updated in the new admin automatically. Worth a look at any app that touches your collections, as some may need updating to work with it.

If you have built a sale collection and then spent the week pulling products out of it by hand, this is the change worth reading about.

I recommended POS Go for years to brands selling away from the till, and plenty of those units are still in service. Shopify has now given it an end date.

From 26 May 2027 it stops working as a handheld and becomes a countertop card reader. There is no trade-in, so if your team sells on the floor or at events, you are buying a replacement either way.

Shopify has a new handheld that takes chip and swipe, and Tap to Pay on a phone is the cheaper route if contactless covers you. Move over in a week you have picked rather than the week the device picks for you.

There's a lot of noise about AI in ecommerce, half fear, half excitement. Here's where I land.

AI is brilliant at speed. It'll write your product descriptions, build your collections, draft your landing pages, faster than you could by hand.

But speed isn't strategy. What you say, who it's for, and what your brand stands for is still human work. Use AI to move faster on the decisions, not to make them for you.

I was going through a client's site this week and the biggest problem wasn't their ads or their homepage. It was the search bar. Someone searches for a product, nothing comes up, and they're gone. A customer they already paid to bring in, lost in one click. Most brands treat a zero-results search like a dead end. I don't. I turn it into a chance to show a bestseller, a bundle, or a better alternative right where the shopper was about to leave.

Search is the highest-intent moment on the whole site. The customer just told you what they want. Fix enough of these quiet losses and you recover sales you were already paying for.

The biggest gap in ecommerce? The ad and the landing page don't match.

You paid real money for that click. The ad worked, someone taps through, and the page answers a different question or carries a different tone. The interest cools in seconds.

You clicked because the ad grabbed you. The page should pick up right where it left off, same look, same message. Match the page to the ad.

Toronto, after Dot Dev 2026.

Five days of Shopify updates, and the part I keep coming back to is the conversations.

Bess is Pacific IQ's creative director as well as my wife, so we spent most of the week pulling apart what actually matters for the brands we work with, usually somewhere like this rather than in a session room.

A great week, and we came home with a long list.

For the first five years of my agency, I wouldn't touch SEO. I'd seen too many reports full of rankings and keywords that looked great and did nothing for the business.

What changed my mind was one shift in how we measure it. SEO isn't about where you rank. It's about organic search revenue, the sales that come from people finding you on Google without paying for the click. That's the scoreboard. Everything else is noise dressed up as progress.

You can see it yourself in GA4, your Google Analytics, revenue split by channel. And how you grow that number is different for every brand, so we build it bespoke instead of running the same checklist on everyone.

Paying for SEO right now? Ask for one thing. Show me organic search revenue this month against last. If nobody can answer, you're buying rankings, not results.

I think a lot of brands are making buying far harder than it needs to be. They keep adding more options, more bundles, more variants, more calls to action, because they assume more choice means more sales.

What usually happens is the opposite. Customers start comparing everything, they second-guess the decision, and they spend more time thinking and less time buying. Choice that was meant to help quietly becomes friction.

The best performing brands do the reverse. They make the next step obvious. One clear product, one clear offer, one clear action to take. When a customer knows exactly what to do next, conversion, the share of visitors who actually buy, tends to climb.

So when I'm after a quick conversion win, I don't start with what we can add. I start with what we can remove, and that's usually where the lift is hiding.
