Congratulations to Makenna Young for being named the SETS Hybrid Training - Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Makenna is a Junior captain Young and had after back-to-back standout races — and after a career built on showing up.

In her fifth year of cross country, Young anchored the Chargers’ rise with two exceptional performances in eight days: a personal-record 21:43.0 at the Northwestern Trojan Invitational, then 22:28.24 at the Clover Classic Eagles Nest Invitational — more than a minute faster than she ran that same course a year ago. Voted captain by her peers, she leads with the same grit she races with: steady at the front of the pack, loud in the huddle, and trusted when the team needs someone who sets the standard.

Her timing matches the team’s climb. The Lake Wylie girls sit 11th in SCHSL Class 4A and are chasing a state-championship berth in November, when the top 16 teams in the state qualify for the championships.

Congratulations to Landon Robinson and Dezzy Crawford being named the Whitney Daigle Real Estate - Co-Players of the Week in football.

The Lake Wylie Chargers picked up a hard-fought 33-28 victory over West Mecklenburg on Friday night, continuing their strong start to a 3-1 season.

The Chargers’ offense was clicking all night, led by a tremendous performance from QB #2 Landon Robinson. Robinson was electric through the air and on the ground, completing 17-of-27 passes for 284 yards and 4 touchdowns, while adding 91 rushing yards on 15 carries.

RB #5 Dezzy Crawford was also a major factor in the passing and running game, hauling in 7 receptions for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Chargers showed plenty of offensive firepower while making the plays necessary to come away with the victory in a competitive matchup.

Congratulations to Grace Cox for being named the BELFOR USA Property Restoration - Girls Volleyball Player of the Week.

Last week, Grace recorded an impressive 10 service aces, 12 defensive digs, and a 2.36 passing rating. Beyond her stats, Grace stepped up for her team by showing great leadership, confidence, and positive energy on the court.

Her leadership and determination played a big role in the Chargers’ exciting comeback victory over Indian Land, where Lake Wylie fought back to win 3–2!

We are so proud of Grace and the impact she continues to make on and off the court.

Congratulations to Paxton Higginbotham for being named the RCS Garage Doors - Football Player of the Week.

Paxton, a sophomore WR, had 4 receptions for 83 yards including a 1st quarter TD from QB Landon Robinson. The Chargers defeated Hunter Huss 27-26.

Congratulations to Maitland Vanourny for being named the Comporium - Cross Country Runner of the Month for August.

At the first meet on August 22nd at the South Meck Invitational, Maitland did exactly what a program’s first-ever front-runner is supposed to do. He went out with the lead pack and came home 13th in 17:17.19 — the fastest time any Charger has ever recorded. Combined across both seeded divisions, Vanourny still lands 46th out of 314 runners. As an August opener, in tenth grade, that’s a 4A-caliber marker.

Maitland followed up with a 16:53.2 at Northwestern’s Trojan Invitational on Saturday (9/12) It wasn’t a fast-course spike but It was the next honest step in a 13-month climb that holds up on real 5Ks.

Congratulations to Lena Minnis for being the named the Sunset Slush - Girls Volleyball Player of the Week.

Lena recorded 16 kills in last week’s games and averaged a 1.64 serve receive rating. Lena continues to step up as a leader on the team and has been a key contributor to the team’s success throughout the season. Her consistency, effort, and willingness to step up when her team needs her. Her leadership has made a significant impact on the team.
