What if calming your nervous system didn’t require you to actually feel calm first?

When we’re overwhelmed, even something as simple as “take a deep breath” can sometimes feel like one more thing we’re supposed to do right.

Breathwork doesn’t have to be about forcing yourself to relax. Sometimes it’s simply about giving your body a little support and letting it respond in its own time.

This week in my Body-Based Regulation Series, I’m sharing five simple ways to use the breath when you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or just plain maxed out.

You don’t have to do all five.
Pick one. Try it. Notice what happens.

And if the best thing for you today is simply letting yourself breathe naturally without trying to change anything — that counts too. 💜

Save this one for the next time your nervous system needs a little extra support.

A different path IS possible—one small step at a time. 💜

When stress builds up, we tend to think we need to calm our mind. But sometimes the body needs to go first.

Stress can show up as tight shoulders, a stiff neck, a clenched jaw, restlessness, or that feeling that your whole body is just… holding on.

Gentle movement can help.

Not a workout. Not a complicated routine. Just a few simple stretches that give your body a chance to move, soften, and release some of that tension.

Start with one of these 5 gentle stretches when you’re feeling tense, overwhelmed, wired, or stuck in your head.

You don’t need to do all five. Choose one that feels good to your body and notice what happens.

Small movements can create big shifts.

Which one sounds good right now — shoulder rolls, chest opener, seated twist, child’s pose, or neck release?

Where does stress show up in your body?

Maybe your shoulders creep toward your ears.
Your jaw gets tight.
Your stomach starts doing somersaults.
Your chest feels heavy.
Or your legs just can’t seem to settle.

Often, our body is responding to stress before we consciously realize how overwhelmed we are.

That’s why body awareness can be such a useful first step.

Instead of immediately trying to make the feeling go away, try getting curious:

What am I noticing in my body right now?

No fixing. No judging. Just noticing.

Because the sooner you recognize your signs of stress, the sooner you can give your body some support — before you’re completely maxed out.

This week in my Body-Based Regulation Series, start paying attention to where stress tends to land in your body.

💜 Where do you notice it first — jaw, shoulders, chest, stomach, legs…or somewhere else?

Awareness isn’t failure. It’s information.

Who do you know that could use one of these. Text me and I will give you all of the details.

Ever notice that when you’re overwhelmed, your mind can be everywhere except where you actually are?

Replaying something that happened.
Worrying about what might happen.
Running through the never-ending list of what needs to happen next.

Grounding brings your attention back to something your body can experience right now.

What can I see?
What can I hear?
What can I feel against my skin?
What can I smell or taste?

You don’t have to use all five senses. Sometimes noticing the warmth of your coffee, feeling your feet on the floor, or listening to the birds outside is enough to give your nervous system a little reminder:

I’m here. This is now.

This week in my Body-Based Regulation Series, try choosing just one sense when you notice yourself getting overwhelmed and spend 30 seconds really noticing what’s around you.

Small moments count. 💜

Which sense helps you feel most grounded — sight, sound, touch, smell, or taste?
