Professor Jerome Fonseca teaches the art of Kajukenbo, Kali, and Jiu-Jitsu. Fonseca Kenpo-Jujitsu offers group training sessions and private lessons. The programs we offer are Basic Knife Instructor, Combat Stick Fighting, and Rapid Assault Tactics (RAT). Our monthly prices average between $35 - $45. Students Art and his grandson JayJay came over this Sunday morning. The goal was to have them test for their FKJ Kajukenbo Yellow Belt. They demonstrated their Katas/Forms and Techniques perfectly. Big thanks to black belt assistant Sifu Bernie for stopping by and helping out.

The main event for this evening was the introduction to some Ground Grappling. First things first. Went over the importance of the “Tap”. Then it was the combative way to stand up. Covered the Stand and Base. Explained and had them demonstrate the 4 main dominant body positions. Mounted, Guarded, Side Control and the Rear Mount. The students then executed 4-5 Gi Chokes from the Mounted Position.
Prior to that we ran a series of open hand drills. The first time for some was using a training Blade to swing through our 20 Strikes. Main focus was Edge Awareness.
Good training this evening. Weather is getting a little better after the last passing Hurricane.

More great Hawaii weather this evening. We went over our Kajukenbo Kata #1 in detail, and conducted some Kicking drills. Then a few single Stick coordination drills followed by a Knife drill feeding off the basic 5 strokes. A Block and Return sequence.

Aloha from the Kanehili Hawaiian Homestead area! Hope everyone is having a great and safe weekend.
The FKJ Club would like to welcome new student Kaleo and his soon to be 12 year old son Logan. Kaleo lives here in our community couple blocks away.
This morning Kaleo gave me a demonstration on his Kenpo knowledge. Showing me some forms and Tricks (old school terminology for Punch Counters and Grab Arts). He was a Brown Belt student of Special Investigator Professor Matt Levi of the Lawakua Kenpo School. Lawakua in Hawaiian Language means a backbone support, strong pillar of strength. Tying or binding something tightly and securely into the back. After Kaleo’s demo I saw the great similarities between our Emperado Method the way I was taught. I have decided to start him off as a higher level colored belt. He must learn our forms, techniques and Kali material before moving forward.
It is always good to have a 6’4 big guy around to keep me honest with our techniques. I love it!

Great class this evening! We decided on having our 2-hour training session in the Kanehili Heritage Center right down the road from my house. Couple surprise promotions tonight. Cady got her full Brown Belt. She did an excellent job at the most recent KSDI Las Vegas Tournament. Cady is also at 4 years with the FKJ Club. Former HPD officer John received his well earned Yellow Belt and will continue to climb that Kajukenbo promotion ladder.
