Compost Education

Hot off the press, here is the newly curated list of our 5 Compost Fest videos. It's taken some time to go back through and put the 5 years together in one place. As the leader of the project, I have a lot of pride in this effort. Just the idea is nuts! Throw a party celebrating the process of rotting things, Invite a hundred people to booth and present, Bring twenty tons of leaves and ten tons of liquid beer dregs, add a diesel bobcat, stir it all together and leave $2,000 worth of compost for the host. Then do it five consecutive years while growing the number of features and booths each year.
Why would you do this, Stan, you goofy person.
This is an easy question for me. First, because I have a great boss who is willing to sponsor the events and fund my time to make it happen. Maybe all big compost companies could do this, but none of them do. Missouri Organic's commitment to the community and education is real and longstanding. I'm fortunate enough to be in this position and I'm running with it.
Second, showing is better than telling. YouTube has an amazing variety of composting information, but there's nothing like seeing a large compost pile being made, talking to compost advocates, asking questions from actual experts in the field in person.
Third, It's crunch time. From unhealthy food, unprecedented heat and drought, increasing corporate control of our food system and more, it's time to learn about the benefits of local food. Compost and healthy soil are the keys to many of these problems and many people just don't know the reasons why Compost is the Answer.
I'm asking you to share this with others. It's easy and maybe with your help we can move the needle just a bit.
