This is a video dealing with the dreaded "chicken wing." About 95% of golfers have a chicken wing because they didn't learn solid fundamentals when they were learning how to swing the golf club. It can be fixed quite simply, although, it will take a little time.
The effort will be well worth it though, because the reward is much better ball striking and much less wear and tear on the joints of the lead arm.
I can't stress enough how important it is for youngsters to get lessons when they are first starting out so that they won't develop a chicken wing and then have to suffer with inconsistent ball striking and significant wear and tear to their shoulder, arm, wrist and hand from many years of swinging the club incorrectly.
A youngster that learns good fundamentals at the start will usually have those fundamentals for the rest of their life as long as they are aware of what they should never allow to occur in their swing.

This is a redo of a prior video of me demonstrating the similarities in loading, storing and releasing energy between casting a fly line and swinging a golf club.
I combined some information about the dreaded "chicken wing" that most golfers possess. If you can think of any questions, please don't hesitate to drop them in the comments.

For those who may be unaware, this is a book that I had published in 2022. It is available in paperback, Kindle, and there is an audio version. It is available from virtually any of the major booksellers.
The only outlet that sells all three versions is www.bookbaby.com

I have included a couple testimonials about the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Masterpiece
Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2023
Format: Paperback
"Golf The Great Revealer is an absolute masterpiece that seamlessly blends the world of golf with profound insights into life itself. The author's eloquent prose takes readers on a captivating journey, using the sport as a metaphor to uncover deeper truths about perseverance, patience, and the human spirit. This book not only celebrates the art of golf but also delves into the psychology behind the game, offering readers a unique perspective on how the challenges on the course mirror the challenges we face in our daily lives. With a perfect balance of anecdotes, wisdom, and technical expertise, Golf The Great Revealer, is a must-read for both golf enthusiasts and anyone seeking valuable life lessons."

The next one is from a fella in California who has played golf all his life. I gave his grandson some lessons about ten years ago. He is well known by golfers in California because he has been involved in so many golf related events for decades. He loves the game so much that he built a shrine dedicated to golf in his back yard. He was thanking his son-n-law for giving it to him for a birthday present.

"Hi, Jeff! I just finished the book you gave me for my birthday. I am a slow reader but, in this case, that's a good thing. There is so much inspiration in Steve Williams' book that I feel it should be given to every person in this country. Who knew that he is so well read and such a positive person. Thank you very much for this book. I will treasure it forever."

When I read his testimonial, I felt humbled because I don't feel that am worthy of what he said. I'm just like anybody else in that I've tried to learn life's lessons as I made my many mistakes through the years.
My inspiration for writing the book, came from life lessons of 64 years, my relationship with the Lord, my family, competing in golf tournaments in high school, college, and as a professional before my back finally got so bad I could no longer play.
Mostly though, the book is a result of the thousands of teachers I've had, since giving my first lesson in the fall of 1976, and that have taught me so many things through the decades... my students!
About 15 years or so ago, I built my website. I had no idea how to build one, so I used a template available from GoDaddy. I have people in the process of building another one that will be far more user friendly. The new one should be available soon, but here is my current one, www.thetexasgolfacademy.com

and here is the book...

Very few golfers take advantage of the strongest tool they have to improve their game. That is one of the reasons they always switch from one thought to another each time they play or hit balls. Remember this, turn solid fundamentals into habits. We do that by using thousands of reps of correct positioning. Then if you establish a habit of a solid fundamental, don't handicap yourself by believing you still need to contrive it for it to happen correctly.
Trust your training!
However, if you don't get enough reps of fundamental positions to create the habit, you will have to contrive it to make it happen. That is not optimal and leads to tension in your swings.
Even though a golfer doesn't absolutely need to understand what I cover in this video, it is certainly advantageous to understand the process so that you can put trust in your practice sessions.

03/27/2026

If you feel you have heard a subject in a video that you believe was also in another video, it is because it is very important and I was trying to cover the same subject from a slightly different perspective.

03/27/2026

Understanding the process of getting lined up correctly. It is a step-by-step process that requires a purpose for each step. Eventually, after the golfer has created habits out of each step to form a process of habit, it becomes an essential part of playing one's best.
