I am so excited to announce that I am officially certified in Core II trauma-informed yoga!! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I finished level 1 training in 2019 and am so grateful for every opportunity Iโ€™ve been given to put into practice the skills Iโ€™ve learned to help others heal through yoga. is an amazing organization with so much to offer instructors interested in holding space for trauma survivors to practice self-awareness and self-regulation.

Core level II has continued to feed my passion for this approach to yoga as a trauma-informed practice and my desire to continue to learn and grow in this discipline.

Trauma sensitive yoga is a beautiful strengths-based service and itโ€™s an honor to hold space for the brave survivors who have taken the leap with me in their journey towards healing and rehabilitation.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to complete my core II training. I enjoyed every aspect of this training and cannot wait to apply all the additional knowledge Iโ€™ve gained through this course.

GREAT READ: Yoga & PTSD

โ€œWhat most people do not realize is that trauma is not the story of something awful that happened in the past, but the residue of imprints left behind in peopleโ€™s sensory and hormonal systems.โ€

โ€œYoga helps regulate emotional and physiological states. It allows the body to regain its natural movement and teaches the use of breath for self-regulation. What is beautiful about Yoga is that it teaches usโ€”and this is a critical point for those who feel trapped in their memory sensationsโ€”that things come to an end. While doing certain asanas, uncomfortable sensations may be evoked. But, by keeping time as they stay in a posture for a limited amount of time, they get to observe that discomfort can be tolerated until they shift into a different posture. The process of being in a safe space and staying with whatever sensations emerge and seeing how they come to an end is a positive imprinting process. Yoga helps them befriend their bodies that have betrayed them by failing to guarantee safety.โ€

โ€œYoga teaches us that there are things we can do to change our brainstem arousal system, our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems and to quiet the brain.โ€

Thank you to those who research, educate, and advocate for trauma informed yoga and itโ€™s use as a healing practice.

Being trauma-informed is having the education and ability to provide care/services (i.e. yoga) in a strengths-based framework that is grounded in the understanding of and responsiveness to the impact of trauma, that emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety for both providers and survivors, and that creates opportunities for survivors to rebuild a sense of control and empowerment.

Being a trauma-informed yoga instructor is providing a service based on the clinical premise that the experience of trauma affects the entire human organism-body, mind, and spirit- and that the whole organism must be engaged in the healing process in order for it to be fully effective. So while traditional therapy is โ€œtalk-based,โ€ focusing on the mind, it neglects the physical, visceral, and body-based dimension of trauma. The application of trauma-informed yoga aids the healing of the mind but also uniquely fills these gaps, to address the physical needs of a trauma surivior and enables them to cultivate healthy and friendly relationships with their bodies again.
