1992
The Trade That Saved Green Bay" - Ron Wolf trades 1st round pick for Brett Favre.

🏈Back in 1992, Ron Wolf made the gutsy gamble that saved the Green Bay Packers.
He traded Green Bay's 1st-round draft pick to Atlanta for an unproven, third-string quarterback named Brett Favre.
Here is why this trade remains one of the greatest heists in NFL history:

* The Red Flags: Team doctors warned Wolf that Favre had a severe hip condition and failed his physical. Wolf ignored them.
* The Price: Green Bay gave up the 17th overall pick. Atlanta used it on Tony Smith, who gained just 329 rushing yards in his career.
* The Legend: Favre went on to start an NFL-record 297 consecutive games for the Packers, won three MVP's, and brought the Lombardi Trophy back home.

🏈 Did You Know?

When the Green Bay Packers selected Sterling Sharpe with the 7th overall pick in the 1988 NFL Draft , he wasn't immediately assigned the iconic #84 jersey.

His first jersey number was actually #43.

During his introductory press conference, Sharpe proudly held up a Packers jersey with #43 on the back. Before the regular season began, however, the Packers reassigned him to #84 β€”the number that would become legendary in Green Bay.

Sharpe went on to rewrite the Packers' record book, earning:
🏈 5 Pro Bowl selections
🏈 3 First-Team All-Pro honors
🏈 NFL receptions leader (1989)
🏈 NFL receiving touchdowns leader (1992 & 1994)

Although his Hall of Fame career was cut short by a neck injury, Sterling Sharpe remains one of the greatest wide receivers in Packers history.

Did you know Sharpe wore #43 before making #84 famous? πŸ’šπŸ’›

1991
A Bear Becomes a Packer πŸˆπŸ’šπŸ’›

It's one of the more surprising chapters in Packers history.

After spending his first six NFL seasons with the rival Chicago Bears, quarterback Mike Tomczak crossed one of football's biggest divides by signing with the Green Bay Packers as a free agent before the 1991 season.

When starting quarterback Don Majkowski suffered a hamstring injury, Tomczak was called upon to lead the Packers' offense. He appeared in 12 games, making seven starts, and finished with a 2–5 record as Green Bay's starter.

Mike Tomczak's 1991 Packers Stats

🏈 Games Played/Started: 12 / 7
🎯 Completions/Attempts: 128 / 239
πŸ“Š Completion Percentage: 53.6%
πŸ“ Passing Yards: 1,490
πŸ”₯ Touchdowns: 11
⚠️ Interceptions: 9
⭐ Passer Rating: 72.6

Although his stay in Green Bay lasted just one season, Tomczak provided valuable veteran leadership during a transitional period for the franchise. Following 1991, he played one season with the Cleveland Browns before finishing his NFL career with a successful seven-year run as a dependable backup for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While he may always be remembered as a former Bear, Mike Tomczak's season in Green Bay is a fascinating footnote in Packers historyβ€”proof that even the fiercest rivals can end up wearing the Green and Gold.

🏈 THEN vs. NOW β€” LAMBEAU FIELD 🏈

When this stadium opened on September 29, 1957, it was known as New City Stadium and seated just 32,150 fans. In its very first game, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears 21–17.

In 1965, the stadium was renamed Lambeau Field in honor of Packers founder, player and longtime coach Curly Lambeau.

Over the decades, expansions and renovations transformed the original open bowl into the iconic stadium we recognize today. Lambeau now seats 81,441 fans and features modern video boards, premium seating, the Packers Hall of Fame and the Lambeau Field Atrium.

A lot has changed since 1957β€”but the pride, tradition and loyalty of Packers fans remain as strong as ever.

The stadium grew. The tradition never changed. πŸ’šπŸ’›
