Brandon Lowe Ambushed a First-Pitch Curveball β€” 402 Feet πŸ’£

Leading off the top of the 6th, tie game, and Rhett Lowder of the Cincinnati Reds drops in a first-pitch curveball β€” 77 mph with a MASSIVE 60 inches of drop at 3,210 rpm, down in the zone. That's a hammer. Brandon Lowe of the Pittsburgh Pirates was ready for it first pitch, stayed on top of it, and drove it 402 feet to right. HR #23.

Getting the barrel to a curveball with that much depth β€” and doing it on the very first pitch of the at-bat β€” takes elite timing and a plan walking to the plate. He wasn't guessing.

πŸ“Š The damage:
πŸ‘€ Brandon Lowe β€” Pittsburgh Pirates | HR #23 (solo shot)
⚾ Exit velo: 103.4 mph
πŸ“ Launch angle: 32Β°
πŸ“ Distance: 402 ft (to right field)
🎯 Pitcher: Rhett Lowder (Cincinnati Reds)
πŸ”₯ Pitch: 77.0 mph curveball, down in the zone (60.5 in. of drop, 12.8 in. break, 3,210 rpm, zone 8)
πŸŒ€ Spin: 3,210 rpm

πŸ‘‡ First-pitch swinging on a curveball down β€” aggressive genius or risky? Where do you land?

Just experimenting with this illustration πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

Honestly this is how my brain works though lol

I can see this in real time when a hitter is swinging and it helps me truly understand their mechanics and planes and all the advanced crap that is part of being an elite hitter

Mixed with timing, rhythm, athleticism, etc...

What do y'all see? Hand height? Barrel path? linear movement? ball path? etc.

Just a different way to view things and hope it helps some people see things.

πŸ“Š The damage:
πŸ‘€ Matt Olson β€” Atlanta Braves | HR #30 (solo shot) πŸŽ‰
⚾ Exit velo: 106.2 mph
πŸ“ Launch angle: 25Β°
πŸ“ Distance: 372 ft (to right field)

3-2 Count and Christian Walker Crushed a Splitter 428 Feet πŸ’£

Full count, leading off the 5th, and Nathan Eovaldi of the Texas Rangers goes to the splitter β€” 85 mph with nearly 37 inches of drop, right around the middle of the zone. That pitch is built to tumble out from under the barrel. Christian Walker of the Houston Astros stayed on it and hammered it 428 feet to left-center at 110.1 off the bat. HR #22.

Squaring up a splitter that's diving that hard, in a full count, and driving it 110 the other way to left-center β€” that's staying on top of a pitch designed to make you swing over it.

πŸ“Š The damage:
πŸ‘€ Christian Walker β€” Houston Astros | HR #22 (solo shot)
⚾ Exit velo: 110.1 mph
πŸ“ Launch angle: 23Β°
πŸ“ Distance: 428 ft (to left-center)
🎯 Pitcher: Nathan Eovaldi (Texas Rangers)
πŸ”₯ Pitch: 85.0 mph splitter, middle of the zone (36.8 in. of drop, 11.9 in. run, zone 5)
πŸŒ€ Spin: 1,468 rpm

πŸ‘‡ 110 off the bat on a full-count splitter. Toughest two-strike pitch to lay off β€” splitter, slider, or curve? Drop your answer.

Finished the Summer Strong!! πŸ’ͺ

Was a good summer with the fellas!

And although we finished the summer 15-7-1(solid), this team honestly could've been probably 21-2. Just took the guys all summer to figure out the mental side. The bringing energy each day, the dealing with bad umpires and just enduring, the playing while behind, the confidence no matter the situation, etc.

This weekend it showed. Run ruled teams. Were trailing in 3 games and fought back each game to go up big in all of them. 8 homers on the weekend. Pitchers maintaining composure with runner in scoring position. Big defensive plays in crucial situations. Guys picking each other up with a great play after a small error. The little stuff.

Was fun to see these guys progress and truly soak in all the info myself, coach John, and each other had to offer!

We will have 16U and 18U next year through private tryouts! So if you are looking to play with us next year, stay tuned for announcements, and reach out if interested! John Magruder BB Sports BB Sports Facility

Ozzie Albies Ties It Up in the 8th β€” Stays Back on the Changeup πŸ’£

Tie-hunting in the 8th, and Rico Garcia of the Baltimore Orioles goes to the changeup β€” 86.5 mph, down and away, diving off the outer edge with 15 inches of arm-side run. That pitch is designed to get a lefty out front and rolling over. Ozzie Albies of the Atlanta Braves didn't bite early. He let it travel, stayed back, and lifted it 380 feet to right for the game-tying home run. HR #17.

Staying back on a changeup away and still driving it out to the pull side takes serious timing and discipline β€” most hitters get pulled off that pitch and hit a weak grounder.

πŸ“Š The damage:
πŸ‘€ Ozzie Albies β€” Atlanta Braves | HR #17 (game-tying solo shot)
⚾ Exit velo: 101.3 mph
πŸ“ Launch angle: 37Β°
πŸ“ Distance: 380 ft (to right field)
🎯 Pitcher: Rico Garcia (Baltimore Orioles)
πŸ”₯ Pitch: 86.5 mph changeup, down and away (22.2 in. of drop, 15.2 in. arm-side run, zone 4)
πŸŒ€ Spin: 2,326 rpm

πŸ‘‡ Staying back on the changeup away β€” is that timing or approach? Tell me what you teach.
