One thing I’ve learned from raising kids in sports…
The hardest part isn’t watching them lose.
It’s watching them learn.
Learning that sometimes their best won’t be enough that day.
Learning that somebody else might get the position they wanted.
Learning that they can do everything right and still make the mistake that costs their team.
Learning that not every coach will see them the way you do.
Learning how to sit on the bench and still be a good teammate.
Learning how to show up the next day after a game they’d rather forget.
As parents, our first instinct is to protect them from the hard stuff.
But sports have taught me that sometimes the hard stuff is exactly what they need.
Because eventually they stop looking at us to fix it.
They start figuring out how to handle it themselves.
They work harder.
They become better teammates.
They learn how to lose without quitting.
They learn how to win without becoming arrogant.
And they learn that one bad game, one mistake, one disappointing season doesn’t define them.
We think we’re raising athletes.
But somewhere between the practices, long drives, wins, losses, tears and celebrations…
we’re raising kids who know how to get back up.
And THAT will matter long after the uniform doesn’t fit anymore. ❤️
