We keep asking people to change their behavior.
But how often do we ask whether the environment is helping them change?
A child is struggling to focus.
A teacher says, “He needs to pay attention.”
An employee is exhausted.
A leader says, “We need better productivity.”
A team isn't creative.
We schedule another brainstorming meeting.
But what if we looked at the environment first?
Research on school-based active breaks, for example, suggests that short movement interventions can improve classroom behavior, even though the evidence for executive function and academic outcomes is more mixed.
Research also suggests that cognitively engaging physical activity can support aspects of executive function in children and adolescents.
And this isn't just a school issue.
It's a leadership issue.
It's a workplace issue.
It's a parenting issue.
It's a human issue.
What happens when we stop asking:
“What's wrong with this person?”
and start asking:
“What is this environment asking of this person?”
Maybe the answer is a movement break.
Maybe it's less noise.
Maybe it's natural light.
Maybe it's a quieter place to think.
Maybe it's fewer interruptions.
Maybe it's an opportunity to create rather than constantly consume.
Maybe it's simply changing a chair or changing position.
I'm not suggesting that environment solves everything.
I'm suggesting that environment is part of the equation.
And that gives us a much more interesting question:
What small change could we make in this environment to better support the humans inside it?
That's the question at the heart of my newest episode of Just Count Me In.
And honestly, I think it's a question every educator, parent and leader should be asking.

The Cost of Belonging.
I can't stop thinking about a teenage girl who was rushed to the hospital and almost died of alcohol overdose.
As I sat with her story, one question kept coming back to me.
What is the cost of belonging?
Maybe she drank because everyone else was drinking.
Maybe she was afraid of being the only one who said no.
Maybe there were deeper struggles we can't see.
I don't know her story, and I don't want to make assumptions.
But I do know this...
The pressure to fit in doesn't end after high school.
Adults experience it every day.
We stay quiet in meetings.
We laugh when something isn't funny.
We order the drink we don't really want.
We stay in jobs, friendships, and relationships because belonging feels safer than authenticity.
That's the real conversation in my newest podcast episode.
It's about The Cost of Belonging—and why choosing authenticity over approval may be one of the bravest decisions we ever make.
Where have you felt social pressure to be someone other than yourself?

What if losing everything wasn't the end—but the beginning?
We often admire people for their success.
We rarely hear about what they lost on the way there.
This week's conversation with Stewart Crown is about much more than money.
It's about identity.
Grief.
Resilience.
Purpose.
And discovering that our greatest wealth often appears after life humbles us.
