Permission to Create Room to Think

Creating space to think can feel unproductive—until we realize how much time we lose by moving forward without clarity.

I often hear people say, “I don’t even have time to think!” Yet we keep pushing forward without giving the situation the attention it deserves.

Of course, not every choice requires deep consideration. But decisions become easier when we have a greater level of self-awareness.

And if you find yourself struggling too long over everyday decisions, this may be a good time to download my free What Matters Most Workbook. It can help you uncover what truly matters so you can move forward with greater direction and clarity.

When self-awareness makes the basic, everyday decisions easier, you have more time and mental space for what matters most. Your mind and body also benefit from the pause they need to reset and regenerate.

So give yourself permission to create a little room to think.

And perhaps reward yourself for taking that time—with the movie you’ve been wanting to see, the massage your body has been asking for, or something else that feeds your soul.

Permission to Celebrate

As we prepare to celebrate 250 years, perhaps we can also give ourselves permission to celebrate the smaller milestones that shape a meaningful life.

How often do you successfully complete a project, then immediately shift your attention to what’s next? I know I’ve often done this. But in this phase of my life, I’m learning to pause and acknowledge what I’ve accomplished.

Your achievement may not be as historic as America’s 250th, but surely completing a project on time and on budget is worthy of a few moments of celebration and appreciation. And what about the book or art mosaic you just finished? Doesn’t that call for a little happy dance?

Taking a few minutes to acknowledge even small wins feeds your soul—and may give you fresh motivation for whatever comes next.

So, in this season of celebration, what would you like to congratulate yourself for?

And in case you need some inspiration, I’m congratulating myself for scheduling some vacation time at home—to relax and make room for whatever wants to emerge.

Now you go!

A recent trip to Tulsa reminded me that wanting something different does not always mean wanting more—at least, not in the traditional sense.

Sometimes it means wanting more music, more discovery, more connection, and more moments that stay with us long after the trip is over.

That’s what Tulsa brought up in me.

I traveled there to meet old friends and visit the Leon Russell and Bob Dylan museums. Music has always been a big part of my life. As some of you have heard me say, it began when I saw the Beatles perform in Dallas during their first American tour.

To me, music is much more than entertainment. It touches my soul. A song can take me back to another time and place—to concerts I attended, people I knew, and friendships formed through a shared appreciation of particular artists.

For years, many of us, myself included, have measured our choices by what they will accomplish. But there comes a time when we give ourselves permission to ask a different question:

What kind of life do I want to experience?

I’ve been sitting with that question for a few weeks now, thinking about the many ways I can give myself permission to live more fully—to honor my own desires and expectations rather than automatically doing what others want or need. That has been my pattern for decades.

Part of what Tulsa gave me was the experience of being fully present. I stood in the Church Studio, where Leon recorded some of his early work, and felt the energy of what had happened there. I imagined him surrounded by other musicians, sharing their musical and songwriting gifts in ways that continue to inspire me today.

These are the kinds of experiences I want more of: moments I can fully enter, enjoy, and carry with me.

Perhaps permission to want something different begins by allowing ourselves to admit what makes us feel most alive.

In my experience, resistance takes both time and energy that I could be putting toward more positive and rewarding actions.

Yet, I often resist first, before giving myself permission to pause and think through my options.

While I may be resisting a certain strategy, there are likely others that will get me to the same outcome with more ease.

Promoting permission has become a new goal for me and one that I encourage you to act on as well.

And lest you think that permission is too flimsy, I’d suggest that it isn’t a soft idea. It is the pause that makes better decisions possible.

What if this one simple act could reduce burnout because it interrupts the pattern of pushing through when adjustment would be wiser?

What an encouraging step to take – give yourself permission to pause before deciding!

Permission Slip

You are allowed to listen before you decide.

Before you say yes.

Before you push through.

Before you assume the old answer is still the right one.

Sometimes the wisest next step is simply to pause long enough to hear what is true now.

What is your body saying?

What is your energy saying?

What keeps quietly asking for your attention?

This week, give yourself permission to listen.

There may be more wisdom waiting than you realize.

More women than ever are reaching a point where the life they built no longer feels like the whole story.

The career may still be working.
The responsibilities are still there.
From the outside, life may even look successful.

But inside, something begins asking for more.

More meaning.
More connection.
More room to become who you’re becoming now.

I think many women quietly enter their second act this way — not with a dramatic moment, but with a growing awareness that they don’t want to spend the next chapter of their life disconnected from themselves.

That’s one of the reasons I created the Transformation Game Experience.

It’s a thoughtful afternoon where women gather around tea, conversation, reflection, laughter, and the Transformation Game itself — a powerful process that often reveals patterns, possibilities, and deeper truths we’ve been too busy to hear.

Again and again, I watch women relax into honesty.
Into insight.
Into the relief of being fully themselves.

If part of you has been sensing that it’s time for a different kind of conversation about your life, I’d love to invite you to join us.

One of the things that surprises women most about the Transformation Game Experience is how quickly the conversation becomes real.

Someone shares something they’ve been carrying quietly for months.
Another realizes she’s been so focused on managing life that she hasn’t stopped to ask herself what she actually wants now.
Someone laughs and says, “I thought I was the only one feeling this way.”

And suddenly the room shifts.

That’s the power of creating intentional space away from the constant pressure to perform, respond, solve, and hold everything together.

The Transformation Game Experience isn’t about having all the answers.

It’s about giving yourself a few hours to reflect honestly, gain perspective, reconnect with yourself, and explore what matters most in this season of your life.

If that sounds like something you need right now, I’d love to have you join us.

Sometimes thoughtful women spend so much time responding to life that they rarely get the chance to pause and ask themselves what they need now.

The Transformation Game Experience creates space for that conversation.

A space to slow down.
Reflect honestly.
Reconnect with yourself.
And explore what matters most in this season of your life.

During our afternoon together, we’ll use the Transformation Game, reflective exercises, and meaningful conversation to create insight, perspective, and connection.

There’s usually laughter.
Often clarity.
And almost always the feeling of finally having room to hear yourself think again.

If you’ve been craving a little more space to breathe, think, reflect, and reconnect with yourself, I’d love to have you join us.

Sometimes beauty isn’t something we see.
Sometimes it’s something we finally have enough space to notice.

The softness in someone’s voice.
A peaceful moment at the end of the day.
The relief of laughter.
The comfort of being fully ourselves with people we trust.

I think many women are carrying so much responsibility, noise, and mental clutter that they rarely get the chance to slow down long enough to reconnect with what’s quietly trying to nourish them.

That’s one of the reasons I love creating spaces for reflection and real conversation through the Transformation Game Experience.

When we pause long enough to reconnect with ourselves, something begins to soften. We breathe differently. We listen differently. We notice differently.

And often, we begin to see beauty again.
